The production of the garden has been in full effect over the last couple of weeks and it has been extremely satisfying and also a big learning school again.
From accidentally cutting down my zucchini bush, to seeing that the peppers were in way too small soil pots after they were finished producing...There are for sure thing that I want to do different in the upcoming seasons.
What I have learned also this year is to start different types of veggies in different moments, so there is a bit of production months in a row.
There is no fun in having one bulk production at a certain moment, and then that the other 10 months of the year are not having anything to do or fumble around with. I like this a bit here and a bit there.
That means that I have also started some winter beans again and those are still just tiny plants and these will continue to grow as the season starts to get colder.
But a super fun plant at the moment is the cucumber plant, which has been growing like a madman and has flowers all over at the moment. Will this be some more harvest that I didn't know was worth growing? Who knows!
Flowering and growing!
I often find that a lot of the veggie producing plants are optically not the most pretty ones to just have around in the garden. These cucumber plants are different honestly. The flowers are super cute and are at every leave 'armpit' and the leaves itself really make a pretty sight as it is growing up.
Regarding the flowers in the plant there is something with male and female flowers, but you don't have to actively pollinate them like you have to with zucchinis for instance.
Now I do have 3 plants in there so if they would cross pollinate each other that would be even better for the strength I guess (this is a total assumption honestly)
And I also read that it is a good thing that when the flowers are in there that it is time to remove some of the lower leaves to reduce those leaves from taking the energy off of the plant and the energy goes to the growing up the fruits.
Also when developing the cucumbers it is said that it goes really fast from flower to actual fruit so I am very curious what will happen.
As you can see on the snap here it seems like this one has been pollinated and an actual fruit is growing there. As it is said that in like only two weeks the fruits are going to be ready to harvest so this will be checking in on on the daily.
Big, bigger, biggest
As said before these plants are growing like a madman, and I hope my rack will be strong enough to support all of this. The plant has these little tentacles where it grasps for support while growing up and those tentacles are actually pretty strong.
The plant is so high by now that I am trying to lead the top sideways so I am still able to reach everything before it turns into a giant jack-and-the-beanstock kind of situation.
Looking at the upcoming weather the days are still very warm and the night temperatures are also still friendly and not at all reaching to frost temperatures so I guess there is still some growth possible before it gets too cold.
I am very curious how the situation will look like in 2-3 weeks of growing and will keep y'all posted on this (only on success of course :D )
