Just completed my open water scuba diving course with PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors).
So it was just one fine day that my wife and I with a couple friends decided to get our scuba diving license. After much discussion and research, we finally decided on the Aman Tioman Resort in Tioman where most beginner divers go to.
So it finally happened. It was a 2.5 hours drive from Singapore to Tanjung Gemok ferry terminal located at the mouth of Endau River just at the border of Johor and Pahang.
It was a 2 hour ferry ride to Tioman island.
Upon reaching Tioman, we were greeted by friendly locals and were really happy with our accommodation. I highly recommend this resort on Paya beach.
Next up getting to know our instructor. My dive instructor, Adrian, who is a true professional in every possible way was strict but goofy sometimes just to ease our anxiety before every exercise.
We had a set of skills that was required to fulfill before we can proceed with our actual boat dives on the third day of our course.
Over span of one and a half day, we learned how to breath correctly underwater, be buoyant underwater, clear our mask of water, swim without mask in water and moving underwater. The most important being emergency procedures if we run out of air.
After all that were done and dusted, our confidence level increased tremendously. We were now ready for our boat dives.
In the afternoon of our third day, we took the plunge into our first foray into the underwater world of corals and aquatic life.
Our first dive was about 9m deep and the second was 17m deep. I must say it was a unique experience like no other. That feeling of weightlessness underwater with all these aquatic life around you was amazing.
If you are thinking of getting your Scuba diving license I would recommend coming here where the water is warm and people are friendly.
