Rib

When I hear the word rib, my mind travels far beyond anatomy. It reminds me of creation, of the divine moment when God took a rib from Adam to form Eve. That single rib carried the blueprint of companionship, love, and unity. It wasn’t just a bone; it was a symbol of connection, showing that we were never meant to walk alone.

But in today’s world, that rib has taken on many meanings. Some see it as a sign of weakness, others as dependence. Yet I see it differently. I see the rib as protection. It guards the heart. It surrounds what is precious and vulnerable. The rib’s role is silent but vital, it doesn’t boast, yet without it, the body would crumble.

I often think that in relationships, friendships, and even life’s purpose, we are all someone’s rib in one way or another. We protect, support, and strengthen those we care about. We fill a gap someone never knew existed until we came along.

Sometimes, I wonder how many of us have forgotten our place as ribs—to guard, not to wound; to comfort, not to crush. The rib may be small, but it carries a great responsibility.

And maybe, just maybe, being a rib isn’t about being taken from someone, it’s about being given to someone, to complete what was once missing.
