2 October 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2878: Swearing Rabbit

The prompt today made me laugh because the image of a rabbit swearing is both unusual and funny. Rabbits, in reality, are among the gentlest animals we know. Growing up, I saw rabbits mostly in cages, kept by friends or neighbors as pets. Their big ears, quiet nature, and constant chewing of grass made them look too innocent to be linked with something as harsh as swearing.

But when I think about the phrase swearing rabbit, I imagine it as a metaphor. Sometimes even the most gentle people reach their breaking point. Just like a rabbit, usually quiet and calm, might suddenly kick its legs when threatened, human beings too can burst out when pushed beyond their limit. It’s not about being naturally aggressive, it’s about reacting under pressure.

On the informative side, rabbits actually do “express themselves” in surprising ways. They thump their hind legs on the ground when they sense danger, they grunt when annoyed, and sometimes even nip if they feel cornered. Maybe that’s their version of “swearing”, not with words, but with actions.

So, the idea of a swearing rabbit reminds me of the hidden side of everyone. Even the calmest person, or the quietest rabbit, has moments when they need to release frustration. It’s a reminder for me personally: don’t underestimate anyone’s emotions, and don’t bottle up my own until they explode.
