They said there was a loose moose in town. Of course, in Lafia, the thought of a moose wandering the streets is more of a daydream than a possibility, but the phrase made me laugh. I imagined this massive creature with antlers towering like branches of a stubborn tree, stomping down our familiar dusty roads, peering into market stalls, and confusing goats and chickens with its size.

A loose moose, in my mind, is not just an animal, it’s a symbol of something wild breaking free, something out of place but still strangely fitting. Sometimes life itself feels like a loose moose, storming into our carefully arranged plans, knocking things over, and demanding attention. We don’t get to control it; we only adapt, dodge, and laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Maybe the “loose moose” is that unexpected opportunity, that mistake that turns into a blessing, or even the inner part of us that refuses to be tamed. And while it might look awkward or even frightening, perhaps it is exactly what we need to shake us out of our routine.
So today, I welcome the loose moose, whether it comes as a challenge, a dream, or a wild idea. Let it run free, because in its freedom, maybe I’ll find mine too.
