Sundays are meant for family day, enjoying each moment, slowing down, and reminiscing places without the rush. Yesterday, kids requested to have lunch outside before Zoe traveled to Bratislava for school. And it was a good idea to spend and enjoy a few quiet hours in Komárno town.

Were on the southern border of Slovakia and the charming town of Komárno City is known for its mix of Slovakian and Hungarian culture and language. Even Komárno is a small city, the place is surrounded by colorful streets, beautiful architectural designs, and full of history. The charming city of Komárno and the beautiful weather felt like the perfect choice for a relaxing family day and the weather was so nice to walk around the town.

Upon arriving in Komárno, we found parking near to the Kino cinema. The beautiful park honors Milan Rastislav Štefánik, an influential leader whose role in establishing Czechoslovakia and highly influential leader in Slovak history. Stepping into the park, the towering trees created a quiet presence and felt more serene. Their leaves were changing color and falling down. The air felt cool and brushed against us. While tree branches swayed that gave the park a calm and refreshing feel.

There’s a striking silver statue of a Soviet Sailor that set among the lush green and tall trees.

There’s the date 1965 inscribed on the black case that stands proudly. The sculpture symbolizes the city’s historical journey and is expressed through public art. On March 30, 1965 and the statue was revealed to the public to mark the 20th anniversary of Komárno’s liberation. The piece of art was created by the skilled hands of Ľudmila Cvengrošová- an academic sculptor.

The sailor's statue is not typically made of stone or bronze, like other statues we saw. But this one was different and it was welded from sheet metal segments.

Tucked beneath the canopy of old trees and just near the historic sailor statue we found a simple fountain. The combination of flowing water and birds chirping made the spot feel instantly serene and refreshing atmosphere.

There are plenty of benches are available beneath the shade, and a perfect place for visitors to pause, relax, and stay to savor the moment.

Just a few steps away, there's a monument named Memorial to the Persecuted (Pamätník prenasledovaní). It shows the group figures hunched under the heavy weight of a massive stone. Monument to victims from political and ethnic persecution. It captures the victims' experiences through suffering and the sense of burden of the Second World War in Komarno, Slovakia.

As we kept walking and our attention caught us to the impressive St. Andrew’s Basilica (Bazilika svätého Ondreja). It stood proudly and towering over the town. The basilica's grand structure dominates the area because of its elegant beauty is matched only by its profoundly rich history. Even as I looked down and I admired the colorful brick designs on the pavement that added such unique charm and character of the place.

The other buildings are also beautiful and appealing, especially their soft pastel tone color. It means the centuries of history, quiet and charming life of the city. I always walk in this area because it's a pedestrian friendly street. And while we were walking, every step I saw the beautiful architectural design.

There’s another stunning historical gem in the lovely town square. Standing proudly the monument is called Plague Columns or Holy Trinity Columns. This is common in the other parts of Europe and they were built as a sign of gratitude and devotion after a period of hardship like a plague. There’s a golden cross at the top and it's like reaching towards the sky. Its intricate carvings and various saints were absolutely beautiful.

We decided to have our lunch near The Plague Columns. The name of the restaurant is Reštaurácia Klapka and they served delicious food and it was the perfect way to recharge. Inside the restaurant the atmosphere was calm, beautiful and gave us a chance to truly enjoy our food and company without any rush. I'm shy about capturing the interior inside and it was respect for people who were enjoying their lunch.

And of course, the kids finalized the order with a request for desert-a chocolate cake. After our delicious meal at Reštaurácia Klapka was complete and we stroll through the heart of the charming town center. And after strolling, we went to the train station and Zoe's journey back to Bratislava.
