Nestled in the charming town of Kolárovo, Slovakia, there's a place that looks like an artwork and if you see it personally a place is breathtaking named Vodný mlyn Kolárovo. It is also known as Hajómalom Gúta. The place is a national cultural monument and it's the last floating water mill in the country.
Our weekend trip, on a beautiful sunny day. And my husband told me if we have time and even a short trip, we will explore more of his beautiful country-Slovakia. And that time we had a chance to visit Vodný mlyn Kolárovo. One of the hidden gems in Kolárovo, Slovakia that is surrounded by history and beautiful nature. The peaceful and breathtaking sight of the water that slowly flows around the old rustic wooden mill.
My husband drove all the way from home to Kolárovo, the weather was perfect for a trip and outdoor activities. We went to the town of Kolárovo because of horses, donkeys and more. Táto said there's a small small farm and Aya will love it.
When we arrived at the place, there were few people and the place was so calm. And unfortunately only the donkey they have. Other animal farms are not there. We don't know the reason because we don't see staff working in the area. But it was all ok. And even just a donkey, Aya was so happy.
We gave her more time to see and pet the donkey. Aya was still small, she was 9 years old when we had our smart trip to Kolárovo. She wants to pet and Táto was teasing her, The donkey will kick up. She hesitated at first but I said it's only a joke.
Hit-and-miss engine used for powering machinery like pumps or mills.
After the farm and only one donkey, we proceed to the riverbank. As we strolled along the area, even from afar the bridge was beautiful.
The wooden bridge captivated by the stillness of the river and breathtaking view. There was peaceful stillness and we felt calm. The wooden mill set against a backdrop of lush trees and grass surrounding that added to its timeless beauty.
And with the tall trees standing proudly toward the bright blue sky. The calm river carrying with it floating lily pads. It's a living design that adds beauty, natural decoration to the calm river. The place sets a peaceful mood for our relaxing trip.
We were instantly captivated by the pathway. And when Aya saw it, she wanted to run. Of course I told her she needs to be careful because the pathway was made of wood. The wooden pathway was a welcoming guide and that led us closer to the mill.
Standing on the bridge, on the calm river, the reflection of the mill mirrored itself in the still water and with lily pads scattered across the surface.
The highlight of our trip was the floating wooden mill. Built in a traditional style with its wooden rustic structure sitting gracefully on the river that gave it a timeless beauty. And blending perfectly with the lush greenery around.
The floating wooden mill is not just a structure. It is special to the town of Kolarovo that the people once once used the river to live. Because of the skillful hands the simple wooden mill is a tool into a means of survival.
Aside from the wooden mill, the place is perfect for a picnic and there's a wooden pavilion and wooden benches where visitors could sit together. And invited us to simply sit, watch the breathtaking view and feel the serenity of the surroundings.
Beyond its beauty,Vodný mlyn Kolárovo it also holds cultural significance. The place is also a favorite spot for small local events from wedding pictorials and educational trips to cultural events that honor Slovak heritage. It’s more than just a scenic spot and the wooden mill, it's a place to enjoy the nature and reconnect with history and community.
We stayed for hours because of the peaceful spot. After we stayed for hours at Vodný mlyn Kolárovo, we stopped by a nearby coffee shop. We enjoyed a warm cup of coffee, while Aya savored her refreshing raspberry juice.
What we loved about our trip, Vodný mlyn Kolárovo offered a refreshing sense of authenticity. Many places are crowded and commercialized and our trip felt pure and simple.
