Last June of 2023, my husband decided to take a spontaneous day trip to Bratislava. This trip was all about us and collecting little moments together in the heart of the capital. One of the best things about living in Slovakia and feels like a blessing with so many fascinating destinations nearby. We chose not to rush, we slowed down and allowed ourselves to really feel the spirit of the city.
Our journey began at home and we drove from our house to the Komárno train for 30 minutes .The short morning ride gave us a gentle and energizing start to the day. Upon arriving at the Komárno-Komárnom train station, we left the car nearby to prepare ourselves for our next adventure. Riding the train for two hours was our own kind of adventure. I’m sitting by the window, watching the changing landscapes, and sharing small conversations then taking his nap that makes the journey even more special. From Komárno to Bratislava, the train ride offered beautiful views of fields, small villages and buildings.
We had snacks packed and I’m eating alone because my husband was sleeping. I’m just enjoying the ride and felt relaxed and pleasant.
Arriving in Bratislava always brings more excitement. The capital city is a mix of old and modern architecture that greets us right away. Our first destination was the UFO Tower and one of Bratislava’s most famous landmarks.
Rising high above the city, the UFO Observation Deck on the Most SNP (Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising) and stands out against Bratislava’s skyline. With its flying saucer shape that made it more unique. It looks as if it belongs in a sci-fi movie and spacecraft hovering over the city. From below, the view looking up was fascinating. But my mind and heart battled over the idea of going up. I'm determined to conquer my fear and to witness the view above.
At the top of the UFO Tower, we felt more amazed by the beautiful scenery and architecture from old and new ones. And overall, the views are mesmerising. The rush of strong winds whipping around us that added to the thrill and excitement hat made the visit truly unforgettable. Below, the Danube River stretched calmly and with boats moving slowly across the water. The view was picture-perfect and made it impossible not to take photos.
The old stone structure Gothic tower was surrounded by lush greenery which was originally part of a Franciscan church and after being damaged in an earthquake and it was later moved to the park.
Sad Janka Kráľa is recognized as one of the oldest public parks in Europe.🍃
From afar, the Water Tower in Petržalka came into view was beautiful.
Watching the Bratislava castle from a distance was breathtaking. And the castle rising above the skyline on its hilltop perch that really looked magnificent. The castle stands as one of the country’s most iconic landmarks. More than the sights but how we slowed down to truly enjoy it. Rather than rushing, we chose to just wander, chat, and treasure each other’s presence. Bratislava feels like a city full of stories at every turn, revealing itself beautifully and making our experience even more meaningful. As the day came to an end, we slowly made our way back to catch the train and hearts full from the experience.
It's a beautiful sight in the Sad Janka Kráľapark, even from afar. 😍
The city was still alive with activity and the train ride back to Komárno was quieter. By the time we got back to our car and started the drive home and we turned toward the quiet of home.
A short trip to Bratislava, a train ride, and a city stroll were more than enough to give us memories to treasure. And we can’t wait to return again soon.
