While The Tiger Cave Temple area does manage to be a bit cooler than other parts of Krabi because of how it has mountains on 3 sides, it still gets a lot of the heat from this part of the world just being super hot during the Thai summer.
Our poor doggos that live at the temple will normally stay in the shade all day long, and never really even venture out. There isn't really a lot that can be done about this except for us to make sure that they have enough water all over the place.
While I do admire the new addition of the nearly completed stupa I think it is called, the creation of this things did end up in the removal of quite a few trees and therefore a lot of the shade. The temple dogs have less places to relax because of that but they have taken to hanging out on the stairs near where the monks live and also where the tourists pass by and sometimes give them snacks..
It gets to 38 degrees in the shade at these times and when you factor in the "real feel" temp with the sun involved, this is far beyond the mid 40's. Combine that with a fur coat that they cannot remove and this is a very hot environment for the dogs here. No wonder most of them tend to hang out in areas that are made from cement and move throughout the day to always be in the shade!
Of course they can be lured out into the open with promises of snacks and I always let them have what they want. We come by here a couple of times a week to make sure everything is ok and the monks will let us know if there are any sudden problems.
It doesn't rain very often but when it does rain it tends to rain really hard and fast and while I am sure this is a bit annoying to the dogs that live all of their lives outdoors it does, at least for a little while, seriously cool the place down for a while.
The dogs will get through this heat wave, they do it every year. In the meantime we make sure they have plenty of water and if you live somewhere hot and and there are also stray dogs, please do them a favor and put some water out for them as well.
