One of the ways to communicate or commune with Him is by prayer. In as much as prayer is an important channel to access God, it is not the only way to get closer to Him. God is a God of principles. There are other principles that He laid out for man to get closer to him. Some of those principles are faith, studying His word, keeping His commandments, praising and worshipping Him etc The principle of having faith is also very essential in trying to get closer to God for the Bible said without faith it is impossible to please God so faith is very important.
Also studying the word of God to know what He expects from us to do as Christians is also another way of getting closer to Him. When we study His word, He reveals more of Himself to us. Through His word He gives us insights of His will for us and how to navigate the compass of life
Praising and worshipping God also brings us closer to Him. When we praise and worship Him, He appears by Himself to take His glory which He doesn't share with any man
God loves righteousness so to win His heart and get closer to Him, we must be righteous. keeping His commandments makes us righteous.
