I’d like to introduce a new member aboard the StormCrow's crew but first the story behind the today’s silver shiny.
“Black birds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven.
Late 2024 I perused one of my online retailers to see what silver I could reasonably fill out my latest Dollar Cost Average (DCA) buy before the 2025 New Year. I started with a few of the new stock before going reverse order from the back of the stock.
This colorized coin appeared almost right of way and I added to my shopping cart and continued shopping. This coin did make its way into my Virtual shopping cart a few times before only that it didn’t make the cut before my finalizing the purchase. This time it’s different.
The Silver Cat coin
I didn’t think further about it until I came across the normal Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) version of the same coin. In a quick comparison, I found it odd that his colorized version was priced reduced to a few dollars cheaper than the BU version. Further examination of the listing description did not indicate whether this as a Customer Returned product or any remarks of any handling or shipping damage. The mintage of this color coin is 2,000 versus the 12,000 uncolored Brilliant uncirculated. “Cheaper than the regular BU.” 🤔
Now the New Zealand mint is a decent quality mint, not top shelf though I can point to more than a few of their past products that could have been better designed so I am skeptical of the quality when it comes to colorized coins. I’ll have to first see in hand.
I’m not usually crazy for colorized coins but it is an adorable cat. And this may be an opportunity coin to flip in the future if I can get my paws on another coin… I couldn’t add any more as this was the last and only coin left, a one off deal.
Upon receiving this coin, my inspection did not reveal any flaws around this coin. The coloring of the reverse obscures the Reverse with no ‘Bag’ marks anywhere even along the rim. The Obverse surface is what I consider ‘Proof-like’ with the design elements cleanly struck and no detracting features. It passes the Neo-mag slide test, and the capsule didn’t have a scratch on it.
The Bottom line
I’m happy having acquiring this novel cat coin at a considerably reduced premium from where it was first listed back in 2022. Maybe it was simply good timing having picked it up before the ink on this listing dried as the Dealer makes room for new products. 😺

Physical precious metals bullion stacking is only a part of my personal overall financial strategy. Meanwhile, collecting numismatics are a different set of objectives and strategy. Unless you are a complete nutcase as I am please, do your research before deciding to buy into any bullion or numismatic products.
