Over the years there have been a number of things that my family do everyday. To be honest at a point it became tiring to me those days living with them and I wished I could just escape some of it. When I finally started living alone and with people I have under my care, I began to see reasons why those rituals were very important in the family, although I didn’t really enjoy them as a child, those rituals were one stronghold that saw us through difficult times.

The first ritual is eating together. This is done especially for dinner. A lot of the time we end up eating late because we are waiting for my dad to come back home. And every time he comes back from work, whether happy or sad, we all eat together. Even during the hard times when there is no dining table, we sit on the floor, stool or chair and make sure we are eating at the same time. We all became accustomed to it, and I practice it with those around me too.
Another major tradition in my house is prayer, and not just gathering to pray every night, it is even more of all nights that might go three hours stretch and we stand or walk the whole time. A lot of the time we (the children) have to endure doing it, because we have no choice. There was a time we did it everyday for more than six months, it was hard and intense, but it built us spiritually. Today I can pray for hours easily because it is a habit I cultivated as a child, and trust my mum to call you to ask how long you spent praying, in order not to lie, I just do it lol.
