NIGERIA MY COUNTRY

I feel proud when I hear foreigners trying to learn Nigerian pidgin English. I know Ghana and some other African countries also speak pidgin, but that of Nigeria is just very unique. Funny how 15, 20 years ago, a lot of parents and schools made efforts to stop kids from speaking pidgin English. I remember how it was prohibited in my house and otherwise tagged as “Bad English”. Because of this I am not too fluent in Pidgin as I only got to start speaking it after I entered the higher institution. I remember how my friends would laugh at me then and it was quite embarrassing that a Warri boy does not know how to speak Pidgin English. I feel this part of our unique language is what the rest of the world loves about us, the slangs can be really funny and at the same time very expressive. Pidgin english also has a lot of coded languages that only the very deep speakers can understand, and I think even though the world is getting to know and love our language they do not know there are types of pidgin even in Nigeria. ![emmanuel-ikwuegbu-T4q6ZPpYjog-unsplash.jpg](https://img.leopedia.io/DQmdpN3sKK7DaBmmPMaHpA53P8CA6m3pDf5WZwk4GvHQJWx/emmanuel-ikwuegbu-T4q6ZPpYjog-unsplash.jpg) Photo by Emmanuel Ikwuegbu on Unsplash Among all the Pidgins though, the Warri Pidgin is supreme. It’s very sweet to listen to, easy to learn and has a lot of coded messages and languages to it. The Port Harcourt pidgin is next to the Warri pidgin but it is very razz and also has a lot of coded messages in it. The Lagos pidgin is the one spoken by most people and it is very easy to learn because it is spoken by very prominent individuals whereas the other two are spoken by deep and native individuals who usually live or grew up in the rural areas. I do have that native pidgin Warri tongue, but I lack the proficiency because I spent most of my adult years in port harcourt where the pidgin is not as sweet. I think soon enough there will be a time where these types of pidgin will be known to the world, and they will appreciate the diversity in our country's language. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmRDUCxsFHMDkYoRaNXkMUUuv9AgBHWz6BTZcGNSYN6ApX/rnfetchblobtmp_fgtcef2qubuke3qlh9re6s.jpg) But when we talk about something bad the world hates about Nigeria, I think it is something relatively easy and that is the fraud and corruption in our country. As much as I hate to admit, there is a lot of fraud going on within and outside the country by Nigerians, and even though the rate of fraud is high, there are people that have refused to accept that not all Nigerians are like that. This has made it difficult getting jobs from other countries because majority of the world have labeled all Nigerians fraudsters without giving us the benefit of doubt. The truth is here we are hustlers because we can not rely on our government for everything and we are relentless in our pursuit for a good life as many of us are not born with one, but there are a lot of us that still hold unto values of honesty even in our pursuit for a better life. >THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO HIVE LEARNER'S [PROMPT](https://discord.com/channels/928986840747372636/929001473231183873/1435536443433947166) FOR WEEK 190 EPISODE 2 ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmYqbQGFerHXinrqqmfCGrRHtwdZRhqAtCVWMna3geK2vc/20230716_224852_0000.png)
