There are certain words that any time I hear a person comes to mind. Not that I had that person in mind but the word simply triggers the memory I have of the person. Be it good or bad memories we cannot deny the fact that in our interactions with others they will always have an impact on our lives.
The word honesty is a word I hear a lot and most times I begin to think why so much importance is placed on it. Honesty for me simply means always standing for the truth or saying the truth at all times. Honesty isn't about occasionally speaking the truth but for me it has to do with always being consistent in saying the truth. Honesty is when one stands for the truth not minding the outcome. I remember while growing up, I had a friend who would only speak the truth when he knows it will lead to him being compensated. He would always tell me he is an honest person. I would laugh and tell him his honesty has a big question sign.
Honesty is a virtue we should all aspire to have. It is important for us to reevaluate our values and see if we as humans are on the right path. The world has become a place where finding an honest person is a Herculean task. This begins right in our homes. Parents are becoming so dishonest but see it as trying not to hurt the child's feeling. A father shared a story of how he would lie to his son that he was a bank manager but in reality he was a janitor. He was given a company bus and it was to serve a means of transportation for the workers. The boy believed what was said , the father as been able to twist the narrative of his true situation. What would happen when the boy finally finds out that is father was dishonest? Hate will now set in and their broken teacher.
Honesty is key to the development of our world today. In a country where honest people are seen as being cowards, the development and growth of such a country will be insignificant. But in the true sense of things honesty is a very valuable virtue which all should be encouraged to exhibit. In a society where a greater number of people are honest we will see that their level of development would be high and the quality of life will be high.
A man found a bag filled with money. He returned it to the owner. The owner of the bag was astonished that honest people still exist. The man was appreciated and the amount of money he got was more valuable than the money he found the bag.
Most times we want others to be honest and hardworking but we ourselves don't practice this virtues we seek in others. I remember a friend telling me how he would want his employees to be honest and trustworthy at all times. But he himself was struggling to live an honest life. Until one day he sat down and was thinking about the importance of being honest. Then he began to retrace his steps and work towards being an honest person.
Honesty is important for those people who value their names. It really helps in the advancement and development of man and his environment.
