Clay Self Portrait

This sculpture was one of our class assignments. We were told to create our own piece, and I decided to work on a self-portrait. At first, it felt like a big challenge because capturing your own face in clay is not easy. You are not just shaping features, you are trying to tell a story about yourself through every line and detail.

As I worked on it, I paid attention to the little things that make up my face — the shape of the eyes, the nose, the beard, and even the texture of the hair. It was a new experience for me because this wasn’t just about practice, it was personal. It made me slow down and really observe myself in a way I had never done before.

The process wasn’t perfect, but that’s what makes it meaningful. For me, this piece is more than just clay. It represents learning, growth, and expression. It also reminds me that as an artist, every work I create carries a part of me in it.

So this is my clay face portrait, and I’m happy to share how it turned out.
