Afroculture celebration

Okay, since being recognized by the Grammy Awards seems like the peak of recognition for a song or a music artist, ever since the song AFROCULTURE was released a few days ago as at the time of writing this article, people have been shouting, screaming, and endorsing that the song must win a Grammy because it has more than it takes.

Now, take a look at the video of the song — is it not screaming excellence and perfection? Isn’t it giving the totality of African heritage in just a 3-minute clip? Of course, it is!

This song, as you can see in the video, has the rich African heritage written all over it and beautifully displayed. It’s not just a Nigerian thing but represents all African vibes, especially with the inclusion of the Senegalese music legend Baaba Maal. The music speaks about the unity of Africa through music — not just the usual hip-hop type but from the rich native style of music which doesn’t usually sell the most, but this time, the world will feel it.

This song’s video recorded 5 million views in just 6 days of its release, and that’s a massive achievement for the artist, who doesn’t usually match up with the big names in the African/Nigerian music industry. As for me, I’ll be looking forward to this song getting a Grammy Award in the next award ceremony.

Still, in the African vibe kind of song, especially from the Igbo highlife style, I’ll share two songs that are also highly rated due to the richness of African/Nigerian culture they bring:

Egedege by Larry Gaaga, Theresa Onuorah, and Phyno —

This song was the first of its kind of collaboration to be released, and it isn’t just a song but a showcase of Nigeria’s rich culture, especially from the Eastern part of the country. The song featured one of the legends of the music industry, Theresa Onuorah, and this song was actually my first time hearing about her. It revived the echo of her hit tracks in the 90s. The song also featured some veteran Nollywood actors such as Pete Edochie and Chiwetalu Agu.

Obodo by the same group of artists was another remarkable track, and they nailed this one even more. However, it is not as pronounced or popular as the Egedege song.

Thanks for reading.
