Sometime ago, I stumbled on a reel on Facebook about some rare human characters, and the ones that piqued my interest were the most intelligent people on earth. Among them was a human who could calculate lengthy numbers, including those involving decimals, just by merely looking at them, and she would do the calculation excellently without the help of a calculator or any other device. It was said that she had a rare brain trait, which is very uncommon among humans. While I was admiring and wondering about the magic-like life of the lady, a question popped up: Is she dead or is she still alive? Is she going to live forever with that gift?
Oh yeah, the woman is late, and she didn’t live forever with her rare, advantageous brain.
This brings me to the question — would I opt in to allow a chip to be planted in my brain to have a very sharp memory?
Normally, I would have jumped up with jubilation and shouted a loud YES to this question, but at this stage of my life now, I would pick a NO. Why?
Sharp memory, retentive memory — all of these, the only place I have thought of their usefulness is in the academic sector, unless the person is going for fame, trying to win a Guinness World Record, or putting the brain to business use. For the moment, what concerns me more right now is to keep adding zeros to my bank account balance and not to be someone with the sharpest brain on earth in terms of retentiveness, yet with nothing to show for it. It would have been acceptable if I were still aiming for the top in school, but for now, no.
But come to think of it, I can’t even imagine my body system being turned into a mini robot. I know that if something like that existed, there would be a perfect way to do it and to avoid glitches with human organs, but even at that, I still think that a time would come when there would be a malfunction and everything would backfire, just like we see in movies. Imagine if I went to play football and I hit my head against someone else’s head, and the chip in my head shifted, making me lose my senses. God forbid!
I would prefer to remain as I am. After all, I’m not dull when it comes to brain and memory. Yes, I forget things once in a while, but it’s natural, and I like my natural self.
*Coming to reality, I think such a thing already exists because of how common it is in movies. Even in my literate state, I strongly believe there are people in existence who are being supported or controlled by chips planted in their brains or in any part of their bodies, which aid them in doing extraordinary things. I just believe that the likes of Elon and some whales who are obsessed with technology are already into such things. But let it remain with them. Maybe that’s the Mark of the … we’ve been hearing about. Lol (fill in the blank by yourself).
Thanks for reading.
