The truth remains that every site or app, including social media, is very important and useful in one way or another. It all depends on how different individuals see it. I remember conversing with Whatmidesays, trying to show her how to make a post on X, and I was surprised when she said she didn't know how to use X. She even mentioned that if she had her way, she would have deleted the app entirely. Meanwhile, she's very crazy about Instagram and the others.
If I had the opportunity to take down any social media platform, it would be Discord.
I'm sure any of my friends reading up to this stage would burst into loud laughter because they know how I have never been a fan of Discord—especially how some groups or communities make it compulsory to get represented there, and how difficult it is to use.
Hold on, I know someone may want to say using Discord is not difficult. Well, for simple and basic usage, it’s indeed very easy, but when you go into advanced usage—such as implementing some features and functions on a channel, either private or public—you’ll understand how demanding it is. One may have to spend four hours watching lectures on YouTube to get it clearly. I'm saying this from experience. I once made an attempt to implement some features on a channel, and I just had to give up and push the job to another person to handle. Discord is difficult!
Apart from the difficulty, I know that Discord has good and suitable features that help in housing projects such as crypto projects and platforms like this one (I mean Hive). But I feel the presence of Discord has made a lot of things unnecessarily elongated. Things that could easily be done on the major handles of projects on X, Facebook, or Hive get unnecessarily stretched to Discord. Oh God, I dislike the fact that a lot of people are very comfortable doing things there instead of sticking to the known handles on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
Why must everything on the major sites be pushed to Discord??? Is there no DM feature on the top social apps that have project handles? Is there no announcement feature? If you check well, you’ll see that all that linking Discord to the original sites of a project is very unnecessary.
To be honest, I know the features of Discord are nice and very useful in many ways, but I just wish it could be taken off.
Telegram? I have a friend I once told about Telegram and the meme coins AIRDROP that trended, and she didn’t fail to voice out her hatred for Telegram. Telegram would have been next on my list to take down if I had the power because it operates almost the same way as Discord—but better. How? At least it gave some of us money back then through those airdrops. Also, it’s more public, and things such as movies can easily be searched for and downloaded on Telegram.
