Ancient Monument “Wat Borom Phuttharam”

Hello friends! 👋 For this trip, I’m still in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province as usual. Today, I’d like to introduce you to another ancient site located right in the heart of Ayutthaya city. 🏛️

This place is not very well known among tourists since the area itself is quite small, but it has a very interesting highlight — a Buddha image in the Subduing Mara posture 🙏, which is a stucco sculpture restored during the Rattanakosin period. You can find it inside the ordination hall.

From the outside, it may look similar to other ancient sites around Ayutthaya, but believe me, once you step inside, you will definitely feel the beauty and the sacred atmosphere of this place. ✨

First of all, I have to say that when you arrive at this point, there’s a sign with the name of the place along with the history of Wat Borom Phuttharam. 🏛️

Actually, I was just driving past this site and at first, I thought I wouldn’t go inside. 🚗 But then I changed my mind — since I was already here and there weren’t many people around, I decided to take a walk inside to see what it had to offer. 👣

  • It turned out to be completely different from what it looked like from the outside. From the inside, even though it’s just a small place, I felt amazed by the architecture here. ✨😍

After I read the small details about this place, I started walking inside and looking around. The atmosphere was just perfect 🌿 because it’s the rainy season — not too hot. The green color of the grass and trees made me feel refreshed and not tired at all being here. ☀️🌳

I have to say that during the summer in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, the weather is dry and extremely hot ☀️, so I usually don’t go outside much because it feels scorching on the skin. If I were to recommend the best time to visit, I’d suggest coming in the winter ❄️ or the rainy season 🌧️ instead.

Let’s start exploring the exterior of Wat Borom Phuttharam

I have to say that this place is truly amazing 😮. The ancient site still retains its original form. The ordination hall on the outside is surrounded by walls, and when you walk inside, you’ll see the ruins of Bai Sema that have collapsed. The ordination hall with its high walls has also fallen apart, but it still maintains its beauty. I noticed that the structure here is mainly made of red bricks. 🧱✨

The intricate construction and the alternating arrangement of red bricks, preserved in their original state without any restoration, make you feel the need to read and learn about the history of this place. 📖🏛️

After admiring the beauty of the exterior of this site, I’d like to take you all inside the ordination hall. 🏛️✨

  • Inside the ordination hall, the walls have very large window openings, allowing excellent ventilation. 🌬️ Faded murals still remain for us to see. Upon entering, the main highlight of this place is the Buddha image in the Subduing Mara posture 🙏, a stucco sculpture restored during the Rattanakosin period. At the back, there are exit doors on both the left and right sides, just like the entrance. 🚪✨

If Thai people visit, I believe every Thai would pay respect and make a wish to the Buddha image in the Subduing Mara posture 🙏. It is believed to bring good fortune and blessings into our lives, and I certainly didn’t miss the chance to do this myself. 😄✨

This is called a Prang-style stupa 🛕. It is quite tall and has a staircase at its base for climbing. In fact, there are two Prang-style stupas here, which are in the late Ayutthaya architectural style.

This photo was taken through the exit doorway, perfectly capturing the Prang-style stupa 🛕 in the center. I couldn’t miss the chance to take this shot and keep it as a memory. 📸

Another interesting highlight is Baan Dinso Bridge 🌉, located next to the temple along the Chakkrai Noi Canal. The main features are the bridge itself and a large banyan tree, which gives this spot a very sacred and mystical feel. 🌳✨

The bridge is built with interwoven fired bricks, similar to the walls and the ordination hall. I feel that the bridge is still quite well-preserved, with very little damage. It is one of the few remaining ancient bridges.

If you’re wondering why it’s called Baan Dinso Bridge, from the information I found, this area used to have a market and shops that sold pencils in the past.
