Hello everyone. โค๏ธ
Howโs everyone doing? Hope youโre all doing well! ๐
Three months ago, it was the long holiday during Thailandโs Songkran Festival ๐, which takes place in April. Thai people often refer to it as the Thai New Year. I believe many Thais traveled back to their hometowns to visit family ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ, as it has become a tradition here. Of course, I was one of them โ I went back to my hometown to see my family and spend quality time together ๐ก๐.
My home is in a rural area, about 40 kilometers away from the city or provincial center ๐๐พ. Buying food and necessities can be a bit difficult here, so when we shop, we tend to buy in large quantities ๐๐ง๐ฅซ to avoid traveling too often.
And for this post, here's one of the photos I captured โ fish catching ๐ฃ. I find it to be such a natural and super fun activity ๐ฟ๐.

My garden and rice field

The road wasnโt in the best condition since it wasnโt paved and the area was surrounded by forest ๐ณ, so the ride was a bit rough.
But eventually, I made it to my destination. We usually bring cars, motorcycles, or bicycles here, along with supplies like drinks, ice, and snacks to enjoy together.
We spent half the day at the spot, and the weather was quite hot, to be honest. โ๏ธ
Before I headed to the fish pond, I took a little walk to see the rubber plantation. My family mainly earns income from rubber farming, sugarcane fields, and rice farming โ and Iโve grown up with all of this since I was a child. Hehe ๐ It brought back memories of my childhood and the fun I used to have in this place when I arrived again.
I started the **first morning in my hometown** by waking up late โ hehe ๐. By then, my relatives had already gone to the farm to catch fish in our pond.
After waking up, I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and got everything ready. Then I hopped on my trusty bicycle and rode about **3 kilometers** to the farm ๐ดโโ๏ธ.

fish-catching activities

By the time I arrived, they had almost finished catching the fish. But this time, I decided to skip joining in and just sit back, watch, and cheer them on instead โ hehe
I don't know why, but I just felt lazy. If it were back when I was a kid, Iโd probably be playing in the mud and having fun with my friends. I couldnโt help but feel nostalgic. But now, just sitting and watching is fun enough โ the mud is just way too dark and messy! ๐
Just look at my face โ it clearly screams, โI just rolled out of bed!โ ๐ด๐ Puffy eyes, messy hair, and that dazed expressionโฆ yep,

Thatโs the face of someone who barely made it out in time to watch the family catching fish. While everyone else was already out there wading through mud and working hard, I was still half-asleep, sitting on the side like a lazy supervisor with zero responsibilities. All I was missing was a cup of coffee in hand! โ๐
Our campfire cooking

After that, I went to gather some rubber tree branches from our plantation to start a fire and grill a few fish at our farm. ๐ฅ๐
The heat from the fire combined with the scorching April weather almost melted me! โ๏ธ๐ฅต

Letโs start with our evening activities first and see how we did them.

This is just a small part of what we managed to catch today โ a humble little effort from our fishing trip. Although itโs not quite finished yet, these fish will soon become part of our shared evening meal.

One thing thatโs never missing from my home is vegetables, sticky rice, and chili paste โ our staple foods. And we absolutely love eating fish! Personally, I think itโs a great choice. Fish is very beneficial to our health; itโs a rich source of high-quality protein and low in fat. Since my mother is getting older, making fish a main part of our meals is actually a very good idea.
And this is just a glimpse of some of the activities my family enjoyed during the Songkran holiday โ or Thai New Year. How about you? What does your family usually do on special days like this? ๐
I hope you enjoyed my post and that you're having a wonderful day. I truly believe that the best safe zone is being with family and being at home. ๐ก๐
Our chef is ready to prepare dinner! ๐จโ๐ณ At my home, weโre surrounded by relatives โ our families built houses close to each other in the same area, which makes it easy to meet up, gather, and create moments together. We often see each other, and because of that, I never feel lonely whenever I visit my hometown. ๐ก๐
