Brief Bio: Alfred Merrill Worden was born on February 7, 1932, in Jackson, Michigan, and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He became a NASA astronaut in 1966, served as command module pilot for Apollo 15 in 1971, and died on March 18, 2020, at age 88.
Did you know: Alfred Worden holds the Guinness World Record for being the most isolated human in history, spending three days alone in lunar orbit, over 3,500 km away from his crewmates on the Moon's surface.
Afterward: After the mission, Worden remained at NASA until 1975 at the Ames Research Center, then entered the private sector, engaging in business activities and serving as chair of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation board from 2005 to 2011.
