New NASA Astronaut: Adam Fuhrmann
Bio
Adam Fuhrmann, born in Brandywine, Pennsylvania, considers Leesburg, Virginia, his hometown. His parents, Henri and Amanda Fuhrmann, live in Viera, Florida. He is married to Shauna Fuhrmann, a U.S. Army veteran and small animal veterinarian, and they have three children.
Fuhrmann enjoys camping, hiking, skiing, hunting, leatherworking, and classic car restoration.
He graduated from Heritage High School in Leesburg in 2007 and earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering with a minor in political science from MIT in 2011, where he was a member of Air Force ROTC Detachment 365 and earned his officer commission.
Background
A major in the United States Air Force, Fuhrmann has accumulated more than 2,100 flight hours, including 400 combat hours, in 27 aircraft types.
He holds master’s degrees in flight test engineering from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School in 2020 and systems engineering from Purdue University in 2022. He served as an operational F-16 instructor pilot at Shaw Air Force Base, Kunsan Air Force Base, and Holloman Air Force Base. Deployed in 2016 for Operations Freedom’s Sentinel and Resolute Support.
Assigned to flight test squadrons at Edwards Air Force Base conducting developmental testing on F-16 and F-35 variants. At selection, he served as director of operations for a flight test unit.
