Since travelling for while now, I have realised more and more the true pleasures of life are the moments in between. That is of course more difficult to observe and enjoy then to point out the fact. But its like anything in life, the more you lean into it, the more you realise it, and then the greater the appreciation. Travelling allows you to do this, through its natural state of purposeless. I believe life has inherent purpose, but with the western view of productivity this has been massively misconstrued. I used to feel guilty about a coffee, just sitting doing nothing. That was when my brain was broken, slowly it was beaten down by the system and my true self was simply fighting to remain. I knew this, I knew I couldn't
keep it going. Eventually it would become too much and I would sit in that pit. Luckily I had the opportunity to travel, through being privileged of living in the UK with parents who offered free accommodation. But overall, those with a good passport and some savings can travel.
Anyways, back to the topic of those small moments. Letting yourself turn off, turn into a daydream. A cascade of dreams which dont feel pressured, they just feel rewarding. Play in your head, and be with your environment in a different way. Throw away your distractions of future obligations and absorb everything. Be a sponge. A sponge that can twist and make its environment malleable. Try to build up these moments, by making yourself available to do nothing. Don't be too organised. Walk down the street and see what you'll find. Then that pattern of behaviour will impact you going forwards.
Travelling is inherently without direction, but so is life. We just usually realise too late how pointless all the planning is. Imagine yourself 5 years ago, could you have predicted your current state now? So whats the point putting all of that pressure on yourself? You will never have it figured out.
