The word tapyas is based from Filipino word which means to cut off or chip. According to the story when the Japanese forces occupied Coron the US airforce bombed the mountain and chipped off a part of it. The way to Mount Tapyas is on foot πŸ‘£ from the center of Coron town it is only ten minutes to reach the first Mount Tapyas stairway or you can hail a tricycle to get there. The stairs has seven hundred twenty steps. Walking through the long staircase after staircase leading to the top of Mount Tapyas is a great exercise for your heart ❀️ legs, glutes and hamstring. It's really a great test of one's endurance and stamina.

It's best to visit Mount Tapyas in early morning where you can witness the beauty of the serene glow of the rising sun in the east and late afternoon where you can behold the magnificent splendor of the sunset facing west. 1d61331b-81c8-4630-a7ff-9037685c4420 (1).jpg

There are several resting areas and benches where you can rest when your feeling tired. You need a bottle of water to keep you hydrated while going up the seven hundred twenty steps every steps is worth it when you reach the top of Mount Tapyas and witness the surrounding Coron town area, the reclaimed area where different boats docks, during late afternoon you can see the tour boats 🚀 arriving on the docks from an island hopping activity and marvel at the vast island of Coron on the horizon till you catch the last few rays of light spreading across region. I love the crimson sky during sunset what a lovely sight to behold.

If you want solitude you can stay on this part of Mount Tapyas. You can bring a flashlight πŸ”¦the pathway down can get dark after sunset. There's a white cross with a sign CORON that illuminates at night. At the peak there is a giant cross which serves as a landmark, it symbolizes hope.
