Weekend Wing Chun

I've posted previously on how I was refinishing my Wing Chun Wooden Dummy. Well, the refinishing went extremely well. The new WaterSeal finish is holding up well to the weather, and getting almost daily use.

I really enjoy the exercise and the more interesting vibe this brings to a workout vs. just blindly beating on a heavy bag. I had a few requests to see it in action, so here is a little video of it in use. Keep in mind I'm just a beginner, I start with the first part of the first form, then just go into freestyle. Purists please be kind, this is not expert or training video, just an example of my early practice and short workout drill, lol. https://vimeo.com/1120977113?fl=pl&fe=sh While I did take Wing Chun and other martial arts classes quite a bit in my youth, I found I liked the Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do style the best. In the past I also studied Karate, Tai Kwon Do, Knife fighting, kickboxing, and dabbled a bit with some Aikido and others.

For me, this was a perfect weekend. I got all errands and chores done on Saturday, then had Sunday off to exercise, workout on the Dummy, swim and just hang around in our backyard sanctuary. Who would have thought that we get more outside time now on the little 1/2 acre than we did when living on 60 acres? Of course that size property had MUCH maintenance, it seemed that all outside time was work/maintenance mowing, shoveling snow, cutting and hauling firewood, etc. Now we pay a local crew to mow our along with the neighbors for cheaper than I could buy the equipment, and instead have more free time to spend on the back patio.

It's amazing how much more time we spend outside now, I'm talking many hours a week more. One of my favorite things to do is to have my morning coffee here, and also a decompress time in the evening. And of course it's Florida, so for 8 months of the year, I can often sneak out at lunchtime for a quick sunning and dip in the pool.

While the beach is only 10 minutes away, it's so much more convenient to hang by the pool, we do that more often. No sand to clean from self and car, no driving, no suit needed, and so handy to sneak in a quick swim in between the near daily scattered thunderstorms in the afternoons.

It's nice to watch the plants and do my daily watering routine. The hibiscous flowers were my favorite (pics in earlier post). Another is the Lemon tree we bought this year. It's been growing now since spring, and Lemons are just starting to turn yellow, still looks like a few more weeks until they are ready, but holy cow, this little tree has 31 Lemons on it! I was expecting 5-6 maybe. Can hardly wait to try one.
