For a long time, I admired all those beautiful, colorful butterfly photos online and kept asking myself: "How do people even manage to capture such delicate beauty? And where do they find these butterflies?!" 🧐
Well, I finally found the answer. And guess what? It’s surprisingly simple: ➡️ If you want butterflies... go to a butterfly house. 😄
During a recent stop in Leipzig, I visited the Botanical Garden, and there it was – a small paradise filled with fluttering wings and tropical humidity: a butterfly house!
📸 Of course, photographing butterflies isn't as easy as it sounds. They don’t exactly take posing directions, and the temperature inside the dome definitely didn’t encourage long photo sessions. Still, I managed to snap a few good shots – and even if my camera fogged up faster than my truck's windshield on a rainy morning, it was totally worth it.
🦋 A FEW FACTS ABOUT BUTTERFLIES:
– There are more than 17,000 species of butterflies known worldwide, distributed across all continents except Antarctica. – Butterflies belong to the order Lepidoptera, which they share with moths. Their name comes from the Greek words for "scale" and "wing," referring to the tiny scales that cover their wings. – Wing coloration in butterflies is not caused by pigments alone. In many species, the colors are created by structural reflection of light, giving them iridescent or metallic appearance. – Butterflies are ectothermic, meaning their body temperature depends on the environment. Most species require an ambient temperature of around 27–30°C to fly effectively. – They play an important role as pollinators, especially for wildflowers, and are considered sensitive indicators of ecosystem health due to their short life cycles and responsiveness to environmental changes.
