As someone who enjoys creating memories always, I have tons of beautiful memories to share in response to the Neoxian prompt for the month of August.
I grew up among amazing people, most especially my family, and every minute around them is not just memorable but a blessing. They've always showered me with love, and it's one of those things we need to have a beautiful life, but this particular story isn't about someone who we are blood-related to. It's about someone who came into my life as a friend, but we ended up becoming sisters.
A lot of people have asked us if we are fraternal twins because of how we've bonded together over the years, but that's not it. Our friendship has stood the test of time, distance, and anything you can think of. We are almost inseparable even though our journeys in life aren't going on the same path.
Like I said before, every minute I spend with my loved one is memorable because I don't know what tomorrow will look like. I might not have the grace for such a moment again, and what we've had in the past is what will remain for us to always revisit.
My most recent memorable time with my best friend, whom I usually call sister, was last week when I completed my NYSC program. The passing-out parade was something I looked forward to, and it was everything I expected.
A day before the event, I spoke to my sister, and she explained how work wouldn't permit her to come around. I felt slightly bad because it wasn't just my day; she walked every step with me throughout the journey, and I really wanted to celebrate the day with her.
I had taken my mind off seeing her at my passing-out parade on Thursday and tried not to miss her because she's never missed one of my celebrations, just like I haven't missed hers either. We spoke a lot on Wednesday night, and on Thursday morning, I started preparing for my big day. She called me in the morning to say congratulations to me, and about thirty minutes later, she was standing right there outside my lodge.
My fellow corper came to inform me that someone was asking after me, and I started wondering who it could be because I wasn't expecting anybody. Upon stepping outside, I saw her, and I was really emotional. I had to compose myself and just walked up to her pretending not to be surprised, but I really was.
I hugged her, and she lifted me from the ground as usual. We were stuck together, and I let a few drops of tears out because I couldn't contain it anymore. Seeing her, I knew my day would take a different turn because she always brings me good vibes. She travelled from another state just to be with me, and unbeknownst to me, she had arrived when she called to congratulate me.
First, she did my makeup since she's very good at it, and we left the lodge together. She was my personal photographer throughout the day, and I felt happy having her around to celebrate with me. After all the stress, she treated me to a delicious meal at a restaurant, and the whole experience made me happy.
It's not her first time turning up for me, and I always appreciate her love for me. When we met, I didn't even know that our friendship would bloom this big. It's been a decade of true friendship, and I can't love her less. We still have so many memories to create in the future, and I believe it would be something to always look back at, just like I am doing now.
