Santa Rosa de Calamuchita in the province of Córdoba is full of little corners to see. That's why, despite having traveled to this province a few times before, I accepted my dad's proposal to spend a vacation together. We both like to hike a lot and explore new places, so nothing could go wrong with this trip. Indeed, it did, and we spent ten days wandering around, seeing everything we could. One little corner of the city we really liked was the
Escalera de los Inmigrantes (Immigrants' Staircase), which led to a viewpoint of the valley, spoiling us a bit of what we would see from the higher mountains ❤️.
Santa Rosa de Calamuchita en la provincia de Córdoba está llena de pequeños rincones para ver. Fue por eso que, a pesar de haber viajado a esta provincia unas cuantas veces antes, acepté la propuesta de mi papá para ir a pasar unas vacaciones juntos. A los dos nos gusta caminar mucho y recorrer lugares nuevos, así que nada podía salir mal en este paseo. Efectivamente así fue, y pasamos diez días de acá para allá, viendo todo lo que estuvo a nuestro alcance. Un pequeño rincón de la ciudad que nos gustó bastante fue la Escalera de los Inmigrantes, que te llevaba a un mirador del valle spoileandonos un poco de lo que veríamos desde las montañas más altas ❤️.

This entire area is known as the Calamuchita Valley and includes several surrounding towns. Santa Rosa was the one we chose to base ourselves on our last vacation because we realized we were in the middle of everything and could get to other nearby places using public transportation. My dad was very excited watching YouTube videos about things we could do nearby, but, as always, I waited until we got there to check everything out in person. In the end, our itinerary was a mix of planned and improvised activities.
Toda esta zona es conocida como el Valle de Calamuchita e incluye varias ciudades en los alrededores. Santa Rosa es la que nosotros elegimos para hacer base en nuestras últimas vacaciones, porque habíamos visto que estábamos en el medio de todo y podíamos ir a otroa lugares cercanos usando el transporte público. Mi papá estuvo muy emocionado viendo videos en YouTube sobre qué cosas podríamos hacer cerca, pero yo como siempre, esperé llegar al lugar para averiguar todo in situ. Al final, nuestro itinerario fue una mezcla de cosas planeadas y otras improvisadas.

Of course, before leaving Santa Rosa, we wanted to get to know the city where we were staying. Since it was a weekday, this modest town was almost ghostly, with all the businesses closed before noon. With luck, we'd see some activity at the end of the week for the Easter celebrations, but since it was a Monday, we were free to enjoy the quiet. This was perfect for a leisurely stroll through the city, where we found the colorful staircase my dad had seen in his YouTube videos.
Por supuesto que antes de movernos de Santa Rosa, queríamos conocer un poco la ciudad donde nos estábamos hospedando. Como era día de semana, esta ciudad modesta estaba casi fantasmal, con todos los negocios cerrados antes del mediodia. Con suerte veríamos un poco de movimiento al fin de la semana en las celebraciones de Pascua, pero siendo lunes nos tocaba disfrutar de la tranquilidad. Esto vino perfecto para recorrer la ciudad con calma, en el que encontramos la escalera colorida que mi papá había visto en sus videos de YouTube.

This staircase was a small passageway in the shopping center, which provided access to the upper street, parallel to the main street. Considering a valley, the city streets were quite uneven, but this wasn't a challenge for either of us. We didn't investigate the reason for the name Immigrants' Staircase, but we did spend a lot of time taking photos because it was so picturesque. My dad really likes taking photos everywhere, so you'll see him pop up a lot in this post and all the following ones 😂.
Esta escalera era un pequeño pasaje entre el centro comercial, que permitía acceder a la calle superior, paralela a la principal. Para ser un valle, las calles de la ciudad tenían bastante desnivel, pero esto no era ningún desafio para ninguno de los dos. No investigamos mucho el por qué del nombre Escalera de los Inmigrantes, pero nos detuvimos bastante tiempo a sacarnos fotos porque era muy pintoresca. Algo que le gusta mucho a mi papá es sacarse fotos en todos lados, así que lo verán aparecer mucho en este post y en todos los siguientes 😂.

At the top of the stairs, about two blocks to the left, was a viewpoint of the city. It wasn't truly incredible, but it was beautiful considering the elevation gain of only 50 meters. The Calamuchita Valley looked very green despite it being autumn, and I was already eager to climb a mountain and see it from higher up. This spot seemed nice enough to sit down and drink some mate, but it was still early, and we had a lot more walking ahead of us.
En la parte superior de la escalera y unas dos cuadras a la izquierda, se encontraba un mirador de la ciudad. No era realmente increíble, pero era lindo como para solo haber hecho unos 50 metros de desnivel. El Valle de Calamuchita se veía muy verde a pesar de ser otoño, y yo ya estaba ansiosa por escalar alguna montaña y verlo desde más arriba. Este punto me pareció lindo como para sentarse a tomar unos mates, pero aún era temprano y teníamos mucho más paseo por delante.

After spending so much time in Ushuaia, seeing a slightly greener, warmer landscape felt like a breath of fresh air. It also felt good to be fulfilling my dad's wish to explore a corner of Córdoba that was new to both of us. This vacation together was the sixth on our list, and luckily, it was a success. Meanwhile, we were preparing our legs for the treks that awaited us in the following days:
if another of his plans was to rest, it was going to be a bit difficult with me around 😅.
Después de haber estado tanto tiempo en Ushuaia, ver un paisaje un poco más verde y cálido se sintió como renovar las energías. También me hizo sentir bien estar cumpliendo el deseo de mi papá de conocer un rincón de Córdoba nuevo para los dos. Estas vacaciones juntas fueron las sextas de nuestra lista y por suerte, fueron un éxito. Mientras tanto, íbamos preparando las piernas para los trekkings que nos esperaban en los días siguientes: si otro de sus planes era descansar, lo iba a tener un poco difícil estando conmigo 😅.
