It had never been in my plans to stay in
Ushuaia until the beginning of autumn but finally I did. I think the time went by very quickly for me because after more than five months I managed to have a more or less stable routine. This comfort was what made me stay longer than I had planned, plus the beauty of the place and the nice people I had met.
Every time I went out a little and found beautiful landscapes, my decision to extend my stay was justified a little more and I took advantage of it to continue enjoying the beautiful scenery ❤️.
Nunca había estado en mis planes quedarme en Ushuaia hasta el comienzo del otoño pero finalmente así fue. Creo que el tiempo fue pasando muy rápido para mí porque después de más de cinco meses logré tener una rutina masomenos estable. Esta comodidad fue la que hizo que me quedara más tiempo del que tenía en mente, sumado a lo hermoso de este lugar y la gente agradable que había conocido. Cada vez que salía un poco y me encontraba con paisajes hermosos, mi decisión de prolongar mi estadía se justificaba un poco más y la aprovechaba para seguir disfrutando de hermosos paisajes ❤️.

After a long and beautiful summer with the vegetation at its brightest, the atmosphere slowly began to change its colour. Only when you were in the city you could see the surrounding mountains and you could already notice how the reddish and brownish colours were tinginging everything in their path. From the comfort of my hostel I was thinking that if everything looked beautiful from there, this colouring would look even more amazing in the always incredible
Emerald Lagoon.
Después de un largo y hermoso verano con la vegetación en su punto más brillante, poco a poco el ambiente empezó a cambiar su color. Solo estando en la ciudad podías ver las montañas circundantes y ya se notaba como los colores rojizos y amarronados iban tiñendo todo a su paso. Desde la comodidad de mi hostel pensaba en que si desde ahí todo lucía hermoso, esta coloración se vería aún más increíble en la siempre increíble Laguna Esmeralda.

The small group of friends that I had formed with Naty varied but always had the same energy and desire to visit the mountain. That afternoon we didn't have much trouble finding people to visit the lagoon: being the most touristic trekking in Ushuaia, there was never a lack of guests or Couchsurfers who wanted to go. Besides, like every weekend, we had the car we rented together, so all the conditions were in place for this 12 kilometres round trip.
El pequeño grupo de amigos que había formado con Naty iba variando pero siempre tenía la misma energía y ganas de ir a visitar la montaña. Esa tarde no nos costó mucho encontrar gente para ir a visitar la laguna: siendo el trekking más turístico de Ushuaia, nunca faltaba algún huésped o persona de Couchsurfing que quisiera ir. Además, como cada fin de semana, teníamos el auto que alquilabamos en conjunto, así que todas las condiciones estaban dadas para este paseo de 12 kilómetros de caminata ida y vuelta.

This was my fourth time walking on this trail, so busy at times, but so lonely for early April. The summer rush in Ushuaia had passed and as the temperatures were slowly getting colder, the Laguna Esmeralda trek was not as massive as usual. For my part, this was an advantage, as we were able to enjoy the autumn scenery with the peace and quiet we wanted. And my suspicions were confirmed: the autumn colour looked amazing on this trail.
Esta era mi cuarta vez caminando en este sendero tan transitado por momentos, pero tan solitario para principios de Abril. El furor por el verano en Ushuaia ya había pasado y como las temperaturas poco a poco se estaban volviendo más frías, el trekking a la Laguna Esmeralda no era tan masivo como siempre. Por mi parte, esto fue una ventaja, ya que pudimos disfrutar del paisaje otoñal con la tranquilidad que queríamos. Y mis sospechas se confirmaron: el color del otoño se veía increíble en este sendero.

The last stretch that brings you to the lagoon, after more than an hour's walk, is always a bit tiring because it is uphill. This path is not so difficult and that is why it is so popular with visitors from all over the world. Having seen this landscape three times in summer, I was very anxious to see it in autumn. It would have been great to see it a fifth time with snow, but unfortunately this day was my last visit to the lagoon before returning home to Buenos Aires.
Siempre el último tramo que te acerca hasta la laguna, después de más de una hora de caminata, cansa un poco porque es subida. Este camino no tiene tanta dificultad y es por eso que es tan visitado por todo el mundo. Después de haber visto este paisaje tres veces en verano, estaba muy ansiosa por verlo en otoño. Hubiese sido genial verlo una quinta vez con nieve, pero lamentablemente este día fue mi última visita a la laguna antes de volver a casa en Buenos Aires.

Seeing the contrast between the reddish autumn and the greenish lagoon was beautiful. It's amazing how the seasons can change the landscape so much and give each season a different charm. What amazes me most about the Emerald Lagoon is that it maintains its colour regardless of the weather. On the day of our visit, it was quite cloudy and the sun didn't show up at all, but that didn't stop the water from looking surreal.
Ver el contraste del otoño rojizo y la laguna verdosa fue algo precioso. Es increíble como las estaciones pueden modificar tanto los paisajes y hacer que en cada época haya un encanto diferente. Lo que más me sorprende de la Laguna Esmeralda es que mantiene su color sin importar el clima. Para el día de nuestra visita, había bastante nubosidad y el sol no se asomó ni un poco, pero eso no impidió que el agua se viera de una tonalidad surreal.

One thing I was looking forward to doing on this walk was to leave my mark with my Worldmappin sticker. On my previous visit I had left the sticker at the start of the trail, but it hadn't occurred to me to leave it at the lagoon. Luckily I found the perfect sign for this, where some other people had also left their marks. But our sticker is more beautiful and unmistakable: let's hope it lasted a little while before someone took them all down 😂.
Algo que tenía ganas de hacer en este paseo era dejar mi huella con mi sticker de Worldmappin. En mi anterior visita había dejado el sticker en el inicio del sendero, pero no se me había ocurrido dejarlo precisamente en la laguna. Por suerte encontré un cartel ideal para esto, en donde algunas otras personas también habían dejado sus marcas. Pero nuestra huella es más hermosa e inconfundible: esperemos que haya durado un poco antes de que alguien los saque a todos 😂.

Our fourth companion on this walk had been a friend of Naty's who was in town to visit her. With him we shared two trekkings and a dinner: he was a very adventurous person and a digital nomad, which allowed him to stay in Ushuaia for a week before he had to return to his home in Uruguay. During the hike he had mentioned that he wanted to go into the water of the lagoon and we thought he wouldn't because it is really freezing, but to the amazement of the rest of the group, he took a nice dip anyway (it only lasted a few seconds, but he did it anyway).
Nuestro cuarto acompañante en este paseo había sido un amigo de Naty que estaba de paseo en la ciudad para visitarla a ella. Con él compartimos dos trekkings y una cena: era una persona muy aventurera y nómada digital, lo que le permitió quedarse en Ushuaia una semana antes de tener que volver a su casa en Uruguay. Durante la caminata él había mencionado que quería meterse al agua de la laguna y pensamos que no lo haría porque es realmente congelada, pero para asombro del resto del grupo, se dió un buen chapuzón de todos modos (solo duró unos segundos, pero igualmente lo hizo).

As for me, I only put my feet in, but also for a few seconds. The water was so cold that it cut you like knives, but I didn't want to leave the lagoon without recharging myself with the energy of the water. On my previous visits to the lagoon there had been a bit of sunshine, but I hadn't done this foot in the water. By the time the swimming session was over, we took our time for a photo shoot for the networks and to record some videos. If there was one thing that was not lacking with this group, it was laughter:

Por mi parte, yo metí solo los pies pero también durante unos segundos. El agua estaba tan fría que te cortaba como cuchillos, pero tampoco quería irme de la laguna sin recargarme con la energía de esa agua. En mis visitas anteriores a la laguna hubo un poco de sol, pero no había hecho esto de meter los pies. Para cuando terminó la sesión de natación, nos tomamos nuestro momento para sesión de fotos para las redes y grabar algunos videos. Si hay algo que no faltó con este grupo fueron las risas: me encantó esta visita a la laguna ❤️.

With the Emerald Lagoon I completely disregarded my own sayings about not repeating treks: this was the hike I repeated the most times. But as they say, it is never really the same, because neither we nor the landscapes are the same each time. To be able to see the lagoon for the last time, with such beautiful colours was a great gift of my almost last days in Ushuaia. I will never get tired of visiting it and I have yet to see it and its snowy surroundings:
I will always have an excuse to return to Ushuaia at some point ❤️.
Con la Laguna Esmeralda desestimé por completo mis dichos de no repetir los trekkings: esta fue la caminata que repetí más veces. Pero como dicen, en realidad nunca es lo mismo, porque ni nosotros ni los paisajes son iguales cada vez. Poder ver la laguna por última vez, con esos colores tan hermosos fue un gran regalo de mis casi últimos días en Ushuaia. Nunca me cansaría de visitarla y me queda pendiente conocerla con sus alrededores nevados: siempre voy a tener alguna excusa para volver a Ushuaia en algún momento ❤️.
