After so many trips together, I think my dad already knew what awaited him on our next vacation. He's well aware of my love of climbing mountains, and if he didn't want to be left behind, he had to be prepared. That's why, almost a month before starting this trip, he made it his mission to buy some hiking shoes. When the time finally came to break them in, luckily we had a mountain nearby to provide the perfect backdrop.
That's how Via Crucis Hill in Santa Rosa de Calamuchita became the ideal place for the debut ❤️.
Después de tantos viajes juntos, creo que mi papá ya sabía lo que le esperaba en nuestras siguientes vacaciones. Él tiene muy presente lo mucho que me gusta subir montañas y si no quería quedarse atrás, tenía que estar preparado. Fue por eso que casi un mes antes de empezar este paseo, se encargó de comprarse unas zapatillas de trekking. Cuando finalmente llegó el momento de estrenarlas, por suerte tuvimos una montaña cerca para que sea un escenario perfecto. Así fue como el Cerro Vía Crucis en Santa Rosa de Calamuchita se convirtió en el lugar ideal para el estreno ❤️.

My dad lives in the city and, of course, didn't have hiking shoes, but the fact that he bought them before this trip showed how interested he was in sharing the mountaineering with me. On our previous vacations to Bariloche, we climbed some mountains, and he had his regular hiking shoes, which worked very well even on slightly snowy terrain. But since he knew it was best to have good footwear, he got some and brought them with him on our trip to Córdoba. Of course, it was obvious we'd be climbing some mountains.
Mi papá vive en la ciudad y por supuesto no tenía zapatillas para montaña, pero que las haya comprado antes de este paseo demostró lo interesado que estaba en compartir montañismo conmigo. En nuestras vacaciones anteriores en Bariloche, subimos algunas montañas y él tenía sus zapatillas comunes, que incluso en terrenos con algo de nieve funcionaron muy bien. Pero como sabía que lo mejor era tener un buen calzado, lo consiguió y lo llevó a nuestro paseo de Córdoba. Por supuesto era obvio que alguna montaña subiríamos.

In any case, I had suggested he break in his shoes while he was at home. When it comes to new mountain footwear, it's best not to break them in right away, because if there's any discomfort, it would be too inconvenient. Following my suggestion, he already had his shoes somewhat soft, but the moment of truth would come when we climbed the final mountain. Near our rented apartment, less than 3 km away, was Via Crucis Hill, which helped us with the test.
De todas formas, yo le había sugerido que usara las zapatillas para ablandarlas mientras estaba en casa. Cuando se trata de calzado nuevo para la montaña, lo mejor es no estrenarlo in situ directamente, porque si hay alguna molestia, sería demasiado inoportuno. Haciendo caso a mi sugerencia, él ya tenía sus zapatos algo blandos, pero el momento de la verdad llegaría cuando subieramos la montaña definitiva. Cerca de nuestro departamento alquilado, a menos de 3 km, teníamos el Cerro Vía Crucis, el que nos ayudó con el test.

According to the information office, climbing this hill was free during the week, but you had to pay on weekends. With this in mind, we naturally went on a Monday. As its name suggests, the hill represents the religious Way of the Cross, so along the way, we came across all the crosses as we explored a bit of the landscape from above. The valley looked very beautiful in the early autumn.
Según la oficina de informes, subir a este cerro durante la semana era gratuito, pero había que pagar en fin de semana. Teniendo esto en cuenta, por supuesto fuimos un lunes. Como su nombre lo indica, el cerro tiene representado el Via Crucis religioso, por lo que en el camino nos encontramos con todas las cruces, a medida que íbamos descubriendo un poco del paisaje en altura. El valle se veía muy hermoso en el comienzo temprano del otoño.

For a trail with an entrance fee, it seemed a bit neglected. Along the way, we found several scattered crosses, which my dad took care of tidying up. There was also some dirt left by people who truly disrespect nature. All in all, though, it was still pretty decently maintained, but I was glad I didn't pay to climb up there (as always, I don't like having to pay to climb mountains that belong to the open landscape).
Para ser un sendero en el que cobran entrada, me pareció algo descuidado. En el camino, encontramos varias cruces tiradas, que mi papá se encargó de acomodar. También había un poco de suciedad que deja la gente que de verdad no respeta la naturaleza. Sin embargo, dentro de todo aún se conservaba bastante decente, pero me alegré de no haber pagado para subir hasta ahí (como siempre, no me gusta tener que pagar para subir montañas que pertenecen al paisaje que es libre).

This trek was fairly short, just 2 kilometers uphill and with a 300-meter elevation gain, but it felt a bit intense due to the heat. I had just returned from more than six months in the frozen south of Ushuaia, and this short hike reminded me of what it was like to trek in the heat. Still, I liked being a little lighter in clothing and appreciating the more colorful landscape once we reached the top.
Este trekking fue bastante corto, solo 2 kilómetros arriba y con un desnivel de 300 metros, pero se sintió un poco intenso debido al calor. Yo llegaba de haber estado más de seis meses en el sur helado de Ushuaia, y esta pequeña caminata me hizo recordar lo que era el trekking con calor. De todas formas, me gustó estar un poco más liviana de ropa y apreciar un paisaje más colorido una vez que llegamos a la cima del cerro.

At the top of the hill, there was a huge cross that undoubtedly marked the end of the road. From up there, you could see almost the entire Calamuchita Valley, including some nearby towns. Although I had visited Córdoba a few times before, I had never been to the town of Santa Rosa. It was a great idea to go and continue exploring this province with my dad, whom I know loves so much, so this is the third time we've visited together. And as always, we took plenty of photos for our memories.
En la cima del cerro había una enorme cruz que indudablemente marcaba el fin del camino. Desde ahí arriba se podía ver casi todo el Valle de Calamuchita, disntinguiendose alguna de las localidades cercanas. Si bien yo ya había visitado Córdoba unas cuantas veces antes, nunca había estado en la localidad de Santa Rosa. Fue una gran idea haber ido y seguir descubriendo esta provincia junto con mi papá, que sé que le gusta tanto y por eso es la tercera vez que la visitamos juntos. Y como siempre, otra vez nos sacamos muchas fotos para los recuerdos.

As for my dad's new sneakers, I must say they did their job very well. They didn't hurt his feet, and he could finally feel the difference of climbing a mountain with proper footwear. This was the first mountain we climbed with the new shoes, but we decided it wouldn't be the last. We still had many days ahead of us, and Córdoba was full of places to see and hills to climb:
we just had to choose one within our reach and conquer its summit 😃.
En cuanto a las zapatillas nuevas de mi papá, debo decir que cumplieron muy bien su función. No le lastimaron los pies y al fin pudo sentir la diferencia de subir una montaña con un calzado adecuado. Esta fue la primera montaña que subimos con los zapatos nuevos, pero dijimos que no iba a ser la última. Todavía teníamos muchos días por delante y Córdoba estaba lleno de lugares para ver y cerros para subir: solo había que elegir uno dentro de nuestro alcance y conquistar su cima 😃.
