My dad and I had had an amazing day, starting early and exploring the area around Embalse, but we still had a little more daylight to enjoy. On these quick trips to the neighboring towns of Santa Rosa, it was practically mandatory to make the most of every minute of the day. It wasn't that the bus fare was so expensive, but my dad and I like to see as much as possible during our outings.
So, from one end of town, we went all the way to the other, just to catch a glimpse of the sunset over the local dam 😃.
Mi papá y yo habíamos tenido un día increíble desde temprano recorriendo los alrededores de Embalse, pero todavía nos quedaba un poco más de luz de día para aprovechar. En estas escapadas express hacia las ciudades vecinas de Santa Rosa era casi obligatorio aprovechar el día hasta el último minuto. No es que el pasaje hasta ahí costara tan caro, sino que mi papá y yo tenemos el gusto de querer ver lo más que podamos durante nuestros paseos. Así fue como estando en una punta de la ciudad nos fuimos hasta el otro lado, solo para ver un poco del atardecer sobre el dique local 😃.

We spent most of our day on a spontaneous but fantastic plan, exploring the abandoned facilities of the
Embalse Tourist Unit. Neither my dad nor I had ever been there before, and we were both captivated. This complex consists of a series of abandoned hotels built in the 1940s, now disused but retaining their air of mystery. It's a huge property on the shores of the Río Tercero Reservoir, a perfect location that was surely enjoyed by vacationers during its heyday.
Pasamos la mayor parte de nuestro día en un plan improvisado pero genial recorriendo las instalaciones abandonadas de la Unidad Turística Embalse. Ni mi papá ni yo conocíamos este lugar y los dos quedamos encantados. Este complejo se trata de una serie de hoteles abandonados contruidos en la década del 40, que ahora permanecen en desuso pero conservando su aura de misterio. Es un predio grandísimo a orillas del Embalse Río Tercero, una ubicación perfecta que seguro fue muy disfrutada por los vacacionistas en los años activos de este lugar.

We spent about three hours exploring as much of the place as we could, but we still didn't see everything. It was truly a place with many hidden corners perfect for some urban exploration, but we didn't want to get caught there after dark. So we went to catch the local bus, intending to get to the other side of the reservoir in time to see the sunset over the dam wall. But after waiting for over an hour in vain, we had to resort to plan B: walking back if we wanted to arrive on time.
Habremos estado unas tres horas recorriendo todo lo más que pudimos sobre ese lugar pero ni siquiera llegamos a verlo todo. Era en verdad un lugar con muchos rincones para hacer algo de exploración urbana, pero no queríamos que nos agarrara la noche ahí. Por eso nos fuimos a tomar el bus local con la intención de llegar hasta la otra punta del emblase, justo para ver el atardecer en el paredón del dique. Pero después de esperar por más de una hora en vano tuvimos que activar nuestro plan B de volver caminando si queríamos llegar a tiempo.

My dad and I are both agile hikers, but after walking about 3 kilometers at full speed, the sun was threatening to set completely, and we were going to miss the best part. That's when we activated plan C and took a taxi to get us closer to the dam. And it was a good thing we did, because we still had about 5 kilometers of walking ahead of us that we hadn't factored in. By the time we arrived, the horizon was already a reddish hue, and even though the sun had set, the landscape was still beautiful.
Mi papá y yo somo hábiles caminantes, pero después de caminar unos 3 kilómetros a toda velocidad, el sol ya amenazaba con ocultarse del todo y nos ibamos a perder la mejor parte. Fue entonces cuando activamos el plan C y nos tomamos un taxi para que nos acercara hasta el dique. Y menos mal que lo hicimos, porque todavía nos faltaban como 5 kilómetros de camino que no habíamos tenido en cuenta. Para cuando llegamos, el horizonte ya estaba todo rojizo y aunque el sol se había ocultado, el paisaje todavía se veía hermoso.

In this part of the dam, it was possible to climb some stairs to the viewpoint, from where you could get a good view of the place. It would have been great to have arrived with a little more time to see everything, but even so, the dim light allowed you to glimpse the immensity of this dam. This water reservoir is formed by the interruption of the Tercero River and is the largest in Córdoba.
En esta parte del dique era posible subir unas escaleras hasta el mirador, desde podías obtener una buena vista del lugar. Hubiese sido genial haber llegado con un poco más de tiempo para verlo todo, pero igualmente la luz tenue dejaba ver un poco de la inmensidad de este dique. Esta reserva de agua está formada por la interrupción del Río Tercero y es el más grande de Córdoba.

This viewpoint also had a romantic theme, with several posters of couples and even a metal heart where couples left padlocks with their names on them. Something that makes my dad a little uncomfortable when we go on vacation just the two of us is that people might think we're a couple, so when we passed some people at the viewpoint, I made sure to call him "Dad" out loud, so the situation wouldn't be misinterpreted, especially in that place 😂.
En este mirador también había un decorado ambientado en los enamorados, con varios carteles de parejas y hasta un corazón de metal donde los románticos dejaban sus candados con sus nombres. Algo que incomoda un poco a mi papá cuando salimos los dos solos de vacaciones es que la gente pueda creer que somos pareja, así que cuando nos cruzamos a algunas personas en el mirador yo me encargué de decirle "pá" en voz alta, para que no se malinterprete la situación y más aún en ese lugar 😂.

This whirlwind but fun visit to the dam's viewpoint was the perfect end to a great day exploring the city of Embalse. After that, it was time to head back to the bus terminal to return to our temporary home in Santa Rosa. What we hadn't considered was that we wouldn't see another taxi to take us back the 6 kilometers to the terminal. So, we had to put plan D into action and walk back. We were a little tired that day,
but satisfied that we'd seen all the places we wanted ❤️.
Esta acelerada pero divertida visita hasta el mirador del dique fue el cierre perfecto para una buena jornada conociendo la ciudad de Embalse. Después de eso, tocó volver a la terminal de micros para volver a nuestra casa temporal en Santa Rosa. Lo que no habíamos pensado era que en todo ese tiempo no ibamos a cruzarnos con ningún otro taxi que nos llevara de regreso a los 6 kilómetros para atrás que nos separaban de la terminal. Entonces tocó activar el plan D y volver caminando: podría decirse que ese día nos cansamos un poco, pero con la satisfacción de haber estado en todos los lugares que quisimos ❤️.
