The arrival of snow during my last few days in
Ushuaia was a pleasant surprise and the perfect touch my trip needed to truly be perfect. Sadly, I thought I'd have to leave the end of the earth without seeing any more snow than I'd already seen, but a sudden fall of snow changed that. With the arrival of cold temperatures, winter weather arrived a few days early, and I was able to take advantage of them to continue exploring before saying goodbye (for now).
If there was a perfect place to go to see how everything had turned out in this weather, it was National Route 3, where a multitude of beautiful landscapes were concentrated ❤️.
La llegada de la nieve en mis últimos días en Ushuaia me sorprendió para bien y fue el toque que necesitaba mi viaje para terminar de ser perfecto. Tristemente pensaba que me iba a tener que ir del fin del mundo sin poder ver más nieve que la que ya había visto, pero una nevada sorpresiva en el otoño cambió esto. Con la llegada de las bajas temperaturas, el clima invernal se adelantó por unos días y pude aprovecharlos para seguir paseando antes del adiós definitivo (por ahora). Si había un lugar perfecto para ir a ver cómo habían quedado todo con este clima era la Ruta Nacional 3, en donde se concentraban una gran cantidad de paisajes hermosos ❤️.

What's beautiful about snow is also difficult when it comes to trekking. With the terrain like this, hiking isn't as easy, so I was glad I'd done all the trails I could while it was summer. Besides, at the beginning of April, I was still suffering from my sprained foot, so I wasn't going to be able to go very far anyway. Luckily, in all the months I'd been in Ushuaia before, I'd managed to make a few Couchsurfing contacts with a car, and to go for a relaxing walk, I just had to send a text and someone would immediately join us.
Lo que tiene de linda la nieve lo tiene de complicada en cuanto trekking se trata. Con el terreno así, ya no se puede ir tan fácilmente a caminar, así que me alegré de haber hecho todos los senderos posibles mientras fue verano. Además, para principios de Abril yo todavía estaba sufriendo por mi pie esguinzado, así que de cualquier modo no iba a poder ir muy lejos. Por suerte en todos los meses que había estado en Ushuaia antes, había logrado hacer algunos contactos de Couchsurfing con auto, y para ir a dar un paseo relajado solo tuve que mandar un mensaje y enseguida alguien se unió al paseo.

Leaving Ushuaia and heading north, you'll find National Route 3. This is where you reach the city if you decide to come by car, and it's also the same road that takes you to most of the tourist attractions. One of them is Mirador Carbajal, a stop I'd already seen when I went to Beban Waterfall and on several other occasions, simply to stop for a while and admire the scenery. This time, with snow and the colors of autumn, it was even more beautiful.
Saliendo de Ushuaia y en dirección norte se encuentra la Ruta Nacional 3. Es por acá en donde se llega a la ciudad si decidís venir en auto, y también es el mismo camino que te lleva a la mayoría de los atractivos turísticos. Uno de ellos es el Mirador Carbajal, una parada que ya había visto cuando fui a la cascada Beban y en otras varias oportunidades, simplemente para frenar un rato y ver el paisaje. Esta vez con nieve y con los colores del otoño era aún más lindo.

Moving a little further, you can pass the entrance to the famous Laguna Esmeralda, which I'd already visited several times, and also the Tierra Mayor Valley and Husky Park, where you can see these dogs playing with sleds. Seeing these places at this time of year was very different from what it was like in summer, and despite it being fall, I really liked this foretaste of winter. I guess it looked the same in the following months, perhaps with a few more people out and about.
Avanzando un poco más, se puede pasar por la entrada de la famosa Laguna Esmeralda, la cual ya había visitado varias veces, y también por el Valle de Tierra Mayor y el Husky Park, en donde se pueden ver a estos perros jugando con los trineos. Ver estos lugares en esta época del año fue muy diferente a lo que fue en verano, y a pesar de ser otoño, me gustó mucho este adelanto del invierno. Calculo que en los meses posteriores se veía igual, quizás con un poco más de gente dando vueltas.

The second stop on our road trip was Castor Ski Resort. At the time of my visit to Ushuaia earlier this year, this was the only one still in operation, while Martial Ski Resort was under repair. We had also visited this place in the summer to see the Cascada del Viento, but on this trip, we finally got to see it dressed in white. It looked quite beautiful, and since it wasn't open yet because it was only April, we were able to enjoy it alone.
La segunda parada de nuestro paseo en auto fue en el Centro de Ski Castor. Al momento de mi visita a Ushuaia a principios de este año, este era el único en funcionamiento, mientras que existe en Centro de Ski Martial que estaba en reparación. También habíamos visitado este lugar en verano para ir a la Cascada del Viento, pero en este paseo finalmente pudimos verlo vestido de blanco. Se veía bastante hermoso, y al no estar habilitado todavía porque apenas era Abril, pudimos disfrutarlo solo nosotros.

Since I'm not a person who has much contact with snow in my real life, of course I don't know how to ski or anything like that. But even my injured foot didn't let me get bored on this trip, playing in the snow and trying to skate a little in the puddles. My Couchsurfing friend, the driver, had seen snow many times before, but my volunteer partner and I were also there, and it was her first time in the snow, so we made a very long stop at this spot so we could all have some fun.
Como no soy una persona que tenga mucho contacto con la nieve en mi vida real, por supuesto que no sé esquiar ni nada de eso. Pero ni siquiera mi pie lastimado permitieron que me aburra en este paseo jugando con la nieve e intentando patinar un poco en los charcos con agua. Mi amigo de Couchsurfing, conductor del auto, ya había visto la nieve muchas veces, pero también estábamos con mi compañera de voluntariado que era su primera vez en la nieve, así que hicimos una parada muy larga en este lugar para que todos nos divirtiéramos un poco.

Our last stop of the day, just before I had to return to the hostel for work, was a small bar halfway there. I'd never seen this place before, so we got out of the car, but unfortunately, it wasn't open. I don't think anyone expected the snow to arrive so early, so it felt like a leisurely winter. Anyway, I always find a way to have fun, and this time the poor statue at the entrance was the butt of the jokes.
Nuestra última parada del día, casi antes de que tuviera que volver al hostel a trabajar, fue en un pequeño bar a mitad de camino. Este lugar si que no lo había visto nunca, así que nos bajamos del auto pero lamentablemente no estaba abierto. Creo que nadie se esperaba que la nieve llegar tan temprano, así que fue ver todo como en un invierno pausado. De cualquier forma, yo siempre encuentro cómo divertirme, y esta vez la pobre estatua de la entrada fue el blanco de los chistes.

Sometimes I can't believe how lucky I am that so many things happen to me, at the exact moments I want them to. According to what the locals had been telling me, snowfall in the city of Ushuaia wouldn't arrive until mid-June, and by then it was April, and it had already snowed enough to be able to see the landscapes this beautiful. There were only a few days left until I returned home, and I felt a mixture of feelings about having to leave, but also satisfaction at having seen almost everything.
I was truly very happy; it was impossible to ask for more ❤️.
A veces no puedo creer lo afortunada que soy con muchas cosas que me pasan, en los momentos justos que quiero que me pasen. Según lo que me habían estado diciendo los locales, las nevadas en la ciudad de Ushuaia no llegaban hasta mediados de junio, y para entonces era abril y ya había nevado bastante, tanto como para poder ver los paisajes así de lindos. Faltaban solo unos días para regresar a mi casa y se me generó una mezcla de sentimientos por tener que irme, pero satisfacción por haberlo visto casi todo. Fui muy feliz realmente, pedir más era imposible ❤️.
