If you are lucky enough to visit
Ushuaia and you happen to have a sunny day, you should hurry as much as possible to go out and enjoy it. The city's changeable weather is something that conditions the clothes you should wear on every walk, but in all cases you are sure to find incredible landscapes. And if trekking is your favourite activity, with good weather you'll be able to get some beautiful photos of the surroundings you visit.
Good weather and some hiking combined perfectly while I visited Cucharita Bay, one of the last hikes I had on my bucket list at the end of the world ❤️.
Si tenes la suerte de visitar Ushuaia y que te toque un día soleado, debes apurarte lo más que puedas para salir a disfrutarlo. El clima tan cambiante que hay en esta ciudad es algo que condiciona mucho la ropa que debes ponerte en cada paseo, pero en todos los casos lo seguro es que te encontrarás con paisajes increíbles. Y si tu actividad favorita es el trekking, con un buen clima vas a ser capaz de obtener unas cuantas fotos hermosas de los alrededores que visites. Buen clima y algo de caminata se combinaron perfectamente mientras visité la Bahía Cucharita, uno de los últimos paseos que tenía en mi lista de deseos en el fin del mundo ❤️.

Joining me while I'm on the road involves a lot of walking. And when the weather is nice, the desire to get out and stretch my legs increases even more. Luckily for my friends at the time, Naty and I had rented a car as we do every weekend, so we planned a ‘relaxed’ drive to Susana Beach. This place can be reached by car and just walking a few metres you can get close to the shore to enjoy a nice afternoon.
Juntarse conmigo mientras estoy de viaje implica caminar un montón. Y cuando el clima está lindo, las ganas de salir a estirar las piernas aumentan aún más. Para la suerte de mis amigos de ese momento, Naty y yo habíamos alquilado un auto como cada fin de semana, así que planeamos un paseo "relajado" hasta la Playa Susana. Hasta este lugar se puede llegar en vehículo y solo caminando unos metros ya te podes acercar a la costa a disfrutar de una buena tarde.

As it was a weekend, this area was quite crowded with both tourists and locals. But the good thing about this place is that it is so spacious that there is room for everyone. This area is the southern end of the Ushuaia coast and if you look over the Beagle Channel, you can already see some of the peaks of neighbouring Chile. Even though it was summer, there was still some of the permanent snow on the summits.
Como era fin de semana, esta zona estaba bastante concurrida tanto por turistas como por gente local. Pero lo bueno de este lugar es que es tan amplio que hay lugar para todos. Esta zona es el extremo sur de la costa de Ushuaia y si miras por sobre el Canal de Beagle, ya podes ver algunos picos del país vecino Chile. A pesar de ser verano, todavía quedaba algo de la nieve permanente de sus cimas.

My friends and I had been trekking for a few days, so we had said we would take this day to rest. For that, we prepared our picnic and sat down in a quiet place to enjoy the scenery. In addition to the people, there were some horses in this place taking advantage of the pasture. Every time I saw a horse in Ushuaia I wondered if they were owned or wild.
Mis amigos y yo veníamos de unos días de bastante trekking, por lo que habíamos dicho que nos tomaríamos este día para descansar. Para eso, preparamos nuestro picnic y nos sentamos en un lugar tranquilo a disfrutar del paisaje. Además de gente, en este lugar habían algunos caballos aprovechando el pasto. Cada vez que veía un caballo en Ushuaia me quedaba la duda de si tendrían dueño o serían salvajes.

Besides offering a good place to relax, Playa Susana also offers a trekking to another place called Bahía Cucharita (Cucharita Bay). From the entrance of the beach, you walk 5 km along the coast until you reach this bay, which, if you look at the map, is literally shaped like a small spoon. After sitting for a while drinking mates, I was of course curious to see what this place was all about. When I proposed the idea of going there, my friends of course didn't join me because of all the accumulated tiredness they had...
La Playa Susana, además de ofrecer un buen espacio para esparcirse, también ofrece un trekking hasta otro lugar llamado Bahía Cucharita. Desde la entrada de la playa, se recorren 5 km bordeando la costa hasta llegar hasta esta bahía, que si miramos el mapa literalmente tiene forma de una pequeña cuchara. Después de un rato sentada tomando mates, por supuesto me invadió la curiosidad por ver de qué se trataba este lugar. Cuando propuse la idea de ir hasta ahí, mis amigos por supuesto no se unieron por todo el cansancio acumulado que tenían...

But as usual I can take energy from where I don't have it when it comes to trekking so I decided to go alone. Walking 8 km round trip would take me about 2 to 3 hours if I did it at my fast pace. It was still very early in the afternoon and there was still a lot of daylight ahead, so my friends supported this idea by saying that they would wait for me without any problems. This made me happy because the day was perfect for getting some good postcards of the whole place.
Pero como siempre yo, puedo sacar energías de donde no tengo si se trata de hacer trekking así que decidí irme sola. Caminar 8 km ida y vuelta me tomaría unas 2 o 3 horas si lo hacía a mi paso rápido. Todavía era muy temprano en la tarde y quedaba mucha luz de día por delante, así que mis amigos apoyaron esta idea diciendo que me esperarían sin problemas. Esto me alegró porque el día estaba perfecto para obtener unas buenas postales de todo el lugar.

Approximately two kilometres after starting the hike, you will come to a sign indicating that this is the entrance to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. This is not the official entrance to the park, which, by the way, costs $30 for foreigners and $9 for locals, so the sign suggests not to go any further. But this is not what it looked like in reality and everyone continued further, as there was still another 2 km to go to reach Cucharita Bay.
Aproximadamente dos kilómetros después de empezar la caminata se llega hasta un cartel que indica que esa es la entrada al Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego. Esta no es la entrada oficial del parque, que por cierto, tiene un ticket de $30 para extranjeros y $9 para locales, por lo que la señal sugiere no seguir avanzando. Pero esto no es lo que se veía en la realidad y todo el mundo continuaba más allá, ya que todavía faltaban otros 2 km para llegar a Bahía Cucharita.

When I finally arrived, I found a bay with a beautiful greenish colour. The sunny day accompanied the beauty of this place, reflecting all around. Most people stayed in this place, but I was so accelerated from my express walk that I felt like continuing a little further. In doing so, I managed to get to the other side of the bay and by climbing up a little, I could see the rock formation from above. If you had a lot of imagination, you could see the shape of a spoon.
Cuando finalmente llegué, me encontré con una bahía con un color verdoso hermoso. El día soleado acompañaba la belleza de este lugar, reflejando todo alrededor. La mayoría de la gente se quedaba en este lugar, pero yo venía tan acelerada de mi caminata express que tenía ganas de continuar un poco más allá. Haciendo eso, logré llegar hasta el otro lado de la bahía y subiendo un poco, pude ver la formación rocosa desde arriba. Si tenías mucha imaginación, podías notar la forma de cuchara.

I arrived at this place with a lot of adrenaline because I wanted to do it quickly, and even though I knew my friends were waiting for me at the entrance, I still took a moment to take a souvenir photo. If I kept walking a few more kilometres I would reach Ensenada Bay, a tourist spot inside the park very similar to this one, with the difference that Cucharita Bay was free. When I returned to the speed of light to continue drinking mates with my friends, I thanked them for waiting for me (besides Naty wouldn't take the car without me). Finally, we all had a good time that day:
they relaxed in front of the mountains and I walked like crazy as usual 😅.
Llegué hasta este lugar con bastante adrenalina por querer hacerlo rápido, y a pesar de que sabía que mis amigos me estaban esperando en la entrada, igualmente me tomé un momento para sacarme una foto de recuerdo. Si seguía caminando algunos kilómetros más llegaría hasta la Bahía Ensenada, un punto turístico dentro del parque muy similar a este, con la diferencia de que la Bahía Cucharita era gratis. Cuando volví a la velocidad de la luz para seguir tomando mates con mis amigos, les agradecí que me hayan esperado (aparte Naty no se llevaría el auto sin mí). Finalmente, todos la pasamos bien ese día: ellos relajados frente a las montañas y yo caminando como una loca como siempre 😅.
