Hello Everyone!
I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Lauren Wuornos and I’m a 27 year old self taught freelance photographer in Minneapolis, MN. This is my very first post on Steemit! I was recommended to join this site by my friend @kommienezuspadt (one of my favorite extremely talented photographers also local to Minneapolis) and I’m so happy I did. I want to use this platform to share my photography and push myself to focus deeper on creative writing and filmmaking in addition to supporting other talented folks on here. I’m sure it’ll take me a minute to figure out the site logistics and how I want to approach releasing my body of new and old work, so meanwhile I’d just like to say thank you for your patience and always feel free to ask me any questions about my images.
As far as my work goes I’m very inspired by my vivid/lucid dreams and strive to blend together that world with this, as seamlessly as possible. I appreciate old 1920’s films, myths, psychology, and tarot. My editing process tends to be meticulous while I shape the narrative of the image through color. I want to breath a little life into everything that I do.
I’m more or less testing the waters of filmmaking (cinematography, color grading, directing etc) by using photography as that bridge between the two mediums. Each of my images tell a story, and they tend to be this rather moody and beautiful little glimmer of something you know quite well but can’t put your finger on it.
Photography has been an incredibly important tool for me personally as well. I’ve been healing from over 15 years of major depression and am so grateful that something like photography has completely changed the way I see the world for the better. It’s almost like my religion in some sense, I’m always willing to sacrifice some discomfort just to see the drama of the world unfolding in a heavy nighttime rain, snow storm, drought. It forces me to slow down and meditate by looking for beauty in the world. I do not seek perfectionism in my work, I seek character. I love shooting portrait, architecture, and nature.
The first image is me trying to look comfortable in broad daylight via my phone camera, the second image is my favorite self portrait because it’s me finally evolving into all the different things I love to chase, and the last image is my favorite recent portrait, taken this past May 2018; Model: Ellieanna Resler; Location: Minneapolis, MN. I see it as a marker to signify a solid 10 years of shooting and as the beginning of a new chapter. Thanks again for viewing my work :)
