Greetings, friends of this #TBT community. It is my pleasure to share this photograph with you. It was taken in 1988, on the day we celebrated my sister Limeriz's 15th birthday. We all called her “La China.” Sadly, she is no longer with us. She passed away in 2017, leaving an indelible mark on all of us who knew her.
This photograph is very special because people from my community, both invited and uninvited, came to that party just to see me dance the waltz with my sister, since I had never danced before. Many laughed, others congratulated me for having the courage, and other family members had tears in their eyes at the sight. In short, it was my sister's day, and I'll tell you that my dad let her choose between a motorcycle or her 15th birthday party, and she preferred the party.
From that day, I remember her smile as she saw her party just as she wanted it, with an excellent dress, music, and her friends and family accompanying her. I may not have been her best dance partner, but I fulfilled my role as her older brother, and it is an honor to have had her in my family. Wherever she is, her smile must be present. At some point, we will meet behind the veil, and if it is possible to preserve these memories of this temporary life, we will surely laugh about this particular day, when I don't know how many times I stepped on her foot.

>Esta fotografía es muy especial porque en mi comunidad fueron a esa fiesta invitados y no invitados tan solo por verme bailar el vals con mi hermana, ya que yo nunca había bailado hasta ese momento, muchos se rieron, otros me felicitaron por tener el valor, otros familiares se les humedecieron los ojos por la escena, en fin, era el día de mi hermana y les cuento que mi papá la dejo escoger entre una moto o los 15 años y ella prefirió la fiesta.
>De ese día conservo su sonrisa de ver su fiesta como ella quería, un excelente vestido, música y sus amistades y familiares acompañándola, quizás no fui su mejor acompañante de baile, pero cumplí con mi rol de hermano mayor, y es un honor haberla tenido en mi familia, donde quiera que se encuentre, su sonrisa debe de estar presente, en algún momento nos reuniremos detrás del velo y si es posible conservar estos recuerdos de esta vida temporal, seguramente nos reiremos de este día en particular, donde no sé cuántas veces la pise.
I miss my sister. She could find humor in any situation and loved to imitate how others danced or spoke. She was a good friend, loyal and helpful. She left behind two children, with whom I have little contact. They were raised far from my home, or rather, I started a new life and moved away from my mother's house.
Fifteen is an unforgettable age for women, and being there made me feel honored. This photo is a piece of our family history, a moment frozen for posterity.
