I currently have five chickens that lay eggs regularly. To reduce feeding costs, I use leftover rice from my neighbors combined with factory-made chicken feed. This mixture gives my chickens balanced nutrition the factory feed provides protein and minerals, while the rice supplies carbohydrates for energy. Every five days, I buy one kilogram of factory feed for 12,000 IDR. During that period, my chickens lay at least four eggs per day, making a total of about 20 eggs in five days. When sold, 20 eggs bring in about 40,000 IDR, leaving me with a surplus of around 38,000 IDR since the rice is free.
Right now, my chicken coop is still small and needs reconstruction, but I do not have the money to rebuild it yet. My goal is to increase the number of chickens from five to twenty so I can produce more eggs every day. With more chickens, I can increase my income and use the profit to gradually improve the coop. A larger and better coop will also make it easier to manage the chickens and keep them healthy.
I believe that the combination of factory feed and rice is very effective for egg production. The chickens stay strong, the eggs are large, and the shells are firm. This balance in nutrition makes my small poultry business sustainable even with limited resources.
In the future, I plan to cooperate with small restaurants to collect their food waste as chicken feed. This will help the restaurants manage their waste efficiently while providing me with a steady, low cost food source.
