Buying Veggies at the Market

When the meat is pricey, why not choose the cheaper but healthy? 90DE9FF9-26C2-45AA-BD04-AEB70B22BEFA.jpeg Hello. Yesterday was just an ordinary day. Because my baby didn’t sleep at noon, we went to the market. We only have a 1000 pesos budget for vegetables. The prices here have increased. Five years ago, we could buy veggies that were almost 3 baskets for 1000 pesos. But these days in 2024, one basket is not even full.

They come from the mountains and travel from their farm to display these fresh products. The space they display is given by the government for free. We always eat green leafy veggies at home, but we don’t buy them a lot and put them in the fridge for many days because they can be decayed. If we buy green leaves, they should be cooked immediately. The Kangkong costs 15 pesos per tie. It has the same price as the sweet potato leaves in purple color. We love making an adobo kangkong. We just sauté the garlic and onion in heated oil in a wok ‘till both ingredients are cooked and put in the kangkong. When it is cooked, we just add an oyster sauce or soy sauce and season with salt and black pepper. I also love making a salad Kangkong where it is steamed ‘till half cooked. In a bowl, put the sliced diced ginger and onion. Pour with vinegar, tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste. Add the steamed Kangkong. I could imagine how yummy and healthy the food is. 3D2C367F-EAA3-4522-A4DD-FCB8C62E8A9C.jpeg I bought 1 kilo of carrots. It costs 35 pesos per kilo which is cheaper than buying at the mall. It costs 60 pesos and above at the mall, so why go there if there is a place in Butuan that divides that price? Carrot is one of the veggies that is rich in vitamins for my baby.

So we saw the small oranges they called here “kiat-kiat.” Each orange costs 10 pesos and 100 pesos per kilo. We also bought a Fiji apple that cost 10 pesos each. Nowadays, it’s expensive to be sick, so buying healthy foods at cheaper prices is wise.
