## The Rescue of the Anaconda This Friday, I received a call from the Ciudad Bolívar firefighters informing us about the rescue of a snake. The support requested was specifically for its safe release. The Orinoco River is currently at high levels due to the rains, and this is causing some animals to leave their habitat and head for the city.  _{Anaconda (Eunectes Murinus)} I'm not a big connoisseur of snakes, I'm more into dogs and cats, so I asked @orinoquense for help to go and see what it was. When we arrived, we realized that it wasn't such a common sighting, it was an Anaconda (like the one in the horror movies), although this one only measured about 2.2 meters, it is still a beautiful specimen.  Without much difficulty but with caution, the anaconda was safely handled, and @orinoquense took the opportunity to give a brief talk to those present about the snake. One of the things we seek to promote is respect for all forms of life. Many people still consider snakes a danger and try to kill them when they see them. This is not only illogical but also dangerous. In that case, it's best to contact the fire department to ensure safe handling of the animal. _{Ciudad Bolívar firefighter holding the Anaconda} The firefighters of Ciudad Bolívar are trained to care for these types of animals, and I'm sure that the firefighters of all the cities in the country are as well, so it is preferable to contact the security agencies before taking risks and putting the animal's life at risk. .  ## Release We've reached an important part of the story: what do we do with the Anaconda? After seeing that it's in perfect condition and consulting with experts in the field, we're considering releasing it in an area far from the city where there are abundant bodies of water, such as a lagoon, and where it isn't used as a spa. We located a lagoon far enough away to carry out the liberation there. For this, we requested the support of military officers from the Bolivarian National Guard, because we went to a fairly remote area and our safety is also important. _{Lagoon chosen to release the Anaconda} After walking a little over 50 meters and making sure there were no people nearby, we released the snake at the edge of the lagoon. Before moving away from us, the anaconda decided to climb a tree, and we gave it enough space to go toward the water. This location was chosen because it's quite far from civilization and there are no people around, so we avoid any risk to the people and to her.   The Bolivarian National Guard officer observed the entire procedure, which was carried out safely.  ## A Tornasol Boa was also released. It turns out that the night before, Luijosmary had also called me telling me that she had found a small snake in her house, but when she showed me how she had captured it, I decided to wait until dawn to help her move it and release it. .  This is a small iridescent boa that measures no more than 30 cm since it is a baby. I understand that when it grows, it could measure up to more than 2 meters. It also does not pose a danger to people unless they try to harm it, and it only defends itself, but it is not poisonous. . Perhaps it's best to contact law enforcement agencies or knowledgeable individuals who we know will release and relocate these animals, not just kill them. You know, we can be careful, but this doesn't mean we should do away with them. # Versión En Español ## El Rescate de la Anaconda Este viernes recibí una llamada por parte de los bomberos de Ciudad Bolívar para informarnos acerca del rescate de una serpiente, el apoyo solicitado fue específicamente para su liberación de forma segura. Y es que justamente el Rio Orinoco se encuentra en niveles altos debido a las lluvias y esto genera que algunos animales salgan de su hábitat hacia la ciuda.  _{Anaconda (Eunectes Murinus)} No soy gran conocedor de serpientes, lo mío es mas de perros y gatos, así que pedí apoyo a @orinoquense para ir a ver de que se trataba, al llegar, nos dimos cuenta de que no era un avistamiento tan común, era una Anaconda (como la de las películas historias de terror), aunque esta solo media unos 2,2 metros, de todas formas no deja de ser un hermoso ejemplar.  Sin tanta dificultad pero con precaución, se logró manipular la anaconda de forma segura y @orinoquense aprovechó dar una breve charla a los presentes acerca de la serpiente. Una de las cosas que buscamos promover es el respeto a todas las formas de vida, muchas personas todavía consideran a las serpientes un peligro y al verlas intentan matarlas, eso además de ilógico, es peligroso, en ese caso es preferible que se comuniquen con los bomberos para realizar el manejo seguro del animal. _{Bombero de Ciudad Bolívar sosteniendo la Anaconda} Los bomberos de Ciudad Bolívar están capacitados para la atención de este tipo de animales y estoy seguro que también los bomberos de todas las ciudades del país, por lo que es preferible comunicarse con los organismos de seguridad antes de arriesgarse y arriesgar la vida del animal.  ## Liberación Llegamos a una importante parte de la historia, ¿que hacemos con la Anaconda?, después de haber visto que están perfecto estado y de haber consultado con expertos en la materia, consideramos la liberación en un área alejada de la ciudad donde se encuentren abundantes cuerpos de agua como una laguna, y que además no sea usado como balneario. Localizamos una laguna lo bastante alejada como para realizar la liberación allí, para esto solicitamos el apoyo de funcionarios militares de la Guardia Nacional Bolivariana, esto porque fuimos a una zona bastante retirada y nuestra seguridad también es importante. _{Laguna elegida para liberar la Anaconda} Luego de una caminata de poco más de 50 m y asegurándonos de que no había personas cerca, procedimos a liberar la serpiente a la orilla de la laguna. La Anaconda antes de alejarse de nosotros decidió subir a un árbol y le dimos el espacio suficiente para que fuera hacia el agua. Se escogió este lugar porque es bastante alejado de la civilización y no hay personas cerca, así evitamos cualquier riesgo para las personas y para ella.   El funcionario de la guardia nacional bolivariana se mantuvo observador de todo el procedimiento que se realizó de forma segura.  ## También se liberó una Boa Tornasol Resulta que la noche anterior también me había llamado Luijosmary comentándome que había encontrado una pequeña culebrita en su casa, pero al mostrarme cómo lo había capturado, decidí esperar hasta el amanecer para ayudarla a trasladarla y liberarla.  Se trata de una pequeña boa tornasol que no mide más de 30 cm ya que es una bebé, entiendo que al crecer puede medir alho más de 2 metros. Tampoco representa un peligro para las personas a menos que estas intenten hacerles daño y ellas solo se defiendan pero no son venenosas. La boa tornasol es conocida por ser depredadora de bastantes roedores y son un control natural en cuanto a los ratones, difícilmente podrían hacerle daño a una persona. _{Luijosmary con la Boa Tornasol}  Como siempre hacemos el llamado a respetar todas estas formas de vida y no exponerse, quizás lo mejor es comunicarse con los organismos de seguridad o personas conocedoras que sepamos que van a liberar y reubicar a estos animales y no solamente a quitarles la vida. Ya lo saben, podemos ser cuidadosos, pero esto no significa que debemos acabar con ellas.
