Quite the experience flying back to the Netherlands after being in South Africa for 7 months in Johannesburg, Capetown and back to Johannesburg again.

What a whirlwind of experiences. Capetown was gorgeous and we visited several wine farms each with their own story and pleasurable experiences.

Deciding to return to the Netherlands was a bitter sweet feeling. I had been offered a promotion with the same company and a decent increase in salary so it was a no-brainer.

This trip was to take me to Utrecht, a city in which my grandmother, now 97 years old, was born in - so that felt kind of good too.

So to back-peddle a bit the first leg of my journey was not that pleasant. Two girls who sat next to me were coughing badly for almost the whole flight and I arrived early hours of the morning in Dubai where I had a nine hour layover.

When I scanned my ticket in - it printed a new one for me and WOW I was given a business class ticket.

Still trying to fathom my incredible luck - I sat back and enjoyed such luxury. This was definitely something on my bucket list - and what a blessing. For now I take it as a gift from above. I had a seat that reclined 3 times, upright, leaning back and fully down, gourmet meals and excellent entertainment.

This was truly an amazing payback for me because on leaving Capetown for Johanneburg with my father we stopped off at a garage to use the loo and in that short time we were robbed - both our laptop bags were stolen and mine had my SA Passport, my Dutch passport and all other ID documents. The nightmare began - and I was given a temporary exit document the following week. However, after loading my luggage and getting to the boarding gates, i was stopped by an official. He wouldn't let me through.

My new job was due to start on 11 August and my new boss was saying this was like the WILD WEST and to be honest it was.

At least my staying the extra days i managed to get 2 new passports, my ID (which usually takes 2 to 3 weeks and set off with all my documents in order.

So with all of that behind me I was finally on the flight and due to arrive 2 days before starting the new job.

I was met at the airport by two very special mates, Hugo and Mazimba where I stayed the night and the following day moved into my new apartment in Amsterdam.

Utrecht, so far is very appealing.
