Secret Distance - Momone

Hello everyone! How are you doing today? I hope your doing well, as ways!

Before I say anything, I have news that I will most likley stop drawing Honata, why? Simply put, she doesn't interest me all that much anymore, but do not worry I won't stop drawing in general! Recently i've gotten a ton of motivation to draw again so that I can give you all new artworks and content! Back on topic, as you can see from the preview this image is SUPER Pink, kind of life barbie. Why did U make it so pink? Well, because it was actually inspired by Mizuki's first focus story where all the cards are pink too! A lot of people, including me, love this set, because of the details, colors, faces of the characters, communicating how they feel and show emotions.

• Mizuki Akiyama

• MEIKO

• Ena Shinonome

• Kanase Yoisaki

As you can see, these are not only detailed in expression and body language, but the colors are beyond impressive, it feels like I've entered a completly different world just looking at them. That's not the only reason I wanted to draw Momone like this too, though. I belive I've mentioned before how struck I am with the way Colorful Pallete's artist's draw / render backgrounds in blender. I, personally, do not have blender, but I do want to learn how to draw backgrounds realistically, so this is actually a huge bonus for me. Especially since the more repetitive things like bows, ribbons and mannequins, are things that I want to learn how to render and such. Although I already got quite popular with the bows, as you can see I put a lot in them.

↓ Progress of the Artwork ↓

↑ this time I didn't start off my drawing with a big blob to picture what positon my drawing was gonna be in...well I did, infact I tried many different poses many different times however none of them had me left satisfied until I drew this one.

↑I fixed her head, I thought it looked too flat in my opinion so I made it stand out a bit more, I also adjusted the position of her legs a bit to make it seem less tense and more playful.

↑ I added flat colors so that, later when I am working on the background she doesn't fade away and just her outlines are kind of visible. I figured that if I draw the background first, then my motivation to keep on working on the drawing won't fade as quickly, and then I can just render Momone later.

↑ Before drawing this, I wouldn't use any lineart for my backgrounds since I always thought that it will be blurry anyway, and sometimes thats true, and for those times I do not need outlines, however the background will look better if theres outlines, as I think it looks more organised.

↑ I added the flat colors to the background now, The background here is divided into 2 parts, the background and the backer ground, the backer ground is the stuff behind the curtains. I will also color all the frills you see around the curtains to white once I'm done rendering. For now they're black so that I can see them better.

↑ I have never rendered courtains before this image, belive it or not. So this is my first ever time trying it out, after looking at the pictures from Colorful Pallete and analysing how they do it, along with looking at real pictures of courtains, I tried it out. I didn’t want to make the shadows too dark and the lighting too light, because I want the atmosphere of this drawing to be calming and mindful.

↑ In some parts you can still see my rendering be kind of wonky, and I noticed it too, which caused me another hour to just try and make this look right. In the end I added additional frills to the edge of the courtain, Inspired by Kanade's and Ena's cards, I also added a similar courtain in the foreground of Momone's face. I belive it makes her give off a sense of mysterium.

↑ I added shadows to the background, courtain, the lamp behind Momone too, although it looked too bland in my opinion, so, I added one of the patterns which Ibispaint offers to you and colored it a light pink to make it seem more interesting. I also added a shadow to Momone's face which I now realise, shouldve problaby used an earaser brush put on airbrush to make the shadow seem a lot softer, since it is just a translucent courtain.

↑ I noticed how the floor in Colorful Pallete's artworks is kind of reflective, now, I didn't want to reflect everything I drew here, not because I dislike doing it, but because I didn't know how. I'm actually really proud of the way I drew the bows in this artwork, I've definetly improved my game a lot!

↑ I rendered the backer ground, incase it's hard to recognize, that thing covered by fabric is a mirror which Momone is looking away from, I've thought of a story why she feels uncomfortable around them and I can't wait to share that story with all of you once I draw more and more of her!

↑ finished drawing the second part of the backer ground, the one I drew before this seemed way to purple and dark from the coloring, and I didn't like that, so I used a multiply layer and a pink airbrush to make it seem a bit lighter.

↑ shading her hair is definetly always the best part for me! It's so fun to do for some reason, I also shaded her skin and added a bit of blush to her cheeks, as I noticed Colorful Stage also always does that with their characters.

↑ I added a nice shine to her hair, I also colored the bow on her chest, I always intended for it to be white but quickly noticed it looked like I just forgot to color it. Again, I used soft colors and a soft watercolor brush to shade it. I know that it makes the bow look different in art style from Momone, but for some reason I kinda liked that.

↑ Almost finished all of the dress, the only thing I still have left to shade now Is the gray parts, like the steel holding her dress up, giving it a flamboyant form, and the gray bow at the side of her hip. I find the gray colors the artist's used kind of random, since the rest of the outfit's have yellow, white, blue and pink as colors.

↑ I finished all the shading on Momone now too, I also used a few multiply layers to shade her in a way which she fits into the enviroment around her. I used an airbrush and darker tones around the parts that are further away such as her legs, and used lighter tones where the eye will most likley meet the character, such as her face.

↑ I didn't like how dark she seemed compared to the rest of the background though, so, I used an Add layer on low opacity to get some shade on her face and chest.

at times I asked myself if the anatomy looks good, if the mild perspective is right, if the background is okay, if her expression is readable. This took a while as you can see at the date I started, I think personally the background took the longest, the rest not so much. The most fun part was definetly at the end where I could render Momone and her colors into the Pink light which the whole room gives off, and also the part where I could render her eyes and her Hair!

What do you think? Did I do good?

As always I appreciate any kind of interactions and any support!

-Yours truly Honata
