Howdy, Space Cowboy! Wanna play Rebel Galaxy Outlaw?

Or do you prefer 8-Balls? Because in Rebel Galaxy Outlaw you can be the bane of traders or pirates, religious fanatics or even dice poker players.

But first back to the basics.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is the space Wild West prequel to Rebel Galaxy, where we find out how old Aunt Juno Markev (you) came to her money. But the first thing you see is Juno being nearly killed. Her ship is destroyed and all she has left is what she carries. One of those things must be the phone number of one of her... friends who agrees to give her a new space ship (read: old rust bucket) if she does a little favor for him.

Well, you know how it is.

definitely not the rust bucket

Depending on your starting conditions you may only have a tiny laser, a radar without Friend/Foe capabilities and the eager want to get better stuff. You can do this by trading, getting bounties or doing missions from a mission computer terminal.

If that sounds like good ol' Privateer to you, than it's because RGO is like good ol' Privateer (the creators are fans.) Just look at that cockpit!

For old geezers like me that may be all you need to jump to buying this game, but be aware that it is time exclusive (1 year) in the Epic Store only.

For all those youngsters who have never played a good, honest space shooter like Privateer or Wing Commander, it goes like this:

pew pew ratatatatat boom swoosch bang swoosch pew pew insult pew oh no booooom

You won't fly around for ages to find your target like in Elite: Dangerous. You won't take ages to kill an opponent. Everything is just as long away as you need to press the button for autopilot or firing your missile.

In the rare case you are too stressed out from fighting pirates (or being one yourself), you can always relax with a game of 8-Ball, dice poker or galaxy invaders in the that bar you can find in any space station (it is a wild west atmosphere).

Story? Well, there is one, yes. It is not a bad one, too. But that is not what the core of this type of game is. The core is to do BANG BANG PEW PEW got you! while enemy fire zigs and zags around you. And while the radio plays your favorite tunes or a commercial for an outstanding business opportunity.

Yes, Bueno Vista is real and you should visit it if you have a bit of time and Credits to spare. That will take you a while though, because first you have to earn the money for better guns, better shields, more energy and of course a better ship than your starting rust bucket, lovingly called platypus.

still not the rustbucket

The missions are randomly generated and the same goes for the (sometimes annoyingly often) cries for help from all around you. Means they are not terribly varied. But you don't play Rebel Galaxy Outlaw for it's wide range of breathtakingly surprising missions. You play it for pew pew boom so that you can afford better stuff and go pew pew pew pew boom bang boom! later on.

And it is fun as hell to do that.

My recommendation? Grab your 25 Credits, buy the game and move your backside to the Dodge sector.
