On friday, I was asking Aggy in office hours about when GLG tournaments would be coming back. He needed a community member to get involved, so I stepped forward. Now, on the following monday, tournaments are officially back to the GLG ecosystem! Next week we will start the first of the new tournaments, with a solo tier event. This means matches will be played in solo tier, allowing lower level teams to compete with the top players out there. I felt this was appropriate to start. After this, we will rotate to Local, Regional and National before coming back to Solo.
The tournaments will take place every three weeks, each lasting for a full week. The rewards have been revamped although Oli's cards are no longer available. The best ones had long been claimed anyway, and that giveaway (another idea from yours truly) was a raging success throughout last winter. That previous giveaway gave us a certain amount of new players, and reinforced the commitment of older ones. Let's see how many will come out of the wood works now to claim these new tournament prizes. It is now still profitable to be outside the top 10, as you will receive a minimum of 1k GLX and 20 GMLSPA packs for finishing between 11 and 20. Not bad for a consolation prize.
Will we see bigger participation in these tournaments? It is a single event, no more double tracks, so everyone has to compete together or not at all. And of course, no double accounts, only one entry per player. No family members using what would otherwise be alt accounts, and I will be vigilant on this issue, to make sure these tournaments stay fair for everyone. Additionally, I have become a GLG discord mod, so we will see how that plays out long term.
