Zarin the Scorch Review: Is It Any Good?

The first conflict airdrop landed this morning and I received... nothing. With nearly 29k CP locked into my wagon, I only had about 20% chance to win a copy, so better luck next time I guess. I felt Zyrx the Emberglace was overpowered, but what about this next dragon unit, Zarin the Scorch? Already, this card, while good, seems much less powerful than Zyrx, despite being 8 mana to Zyrx' 10. Simply comparing raw stats will leave you wondering what is going on here. However, keep in mind that Zyrx has Incendiary, so he naturally should be more powerful for his mana cost.

Other than being two airdrop dragon cards with similar mana costs, these cards are very different from each other. Zarin the Scorch doesn't shy away from dealing damage, with her three magic damage with blast, totaling five damage spread over two targets. However, her specialty is in the support role, with a Phase Ward granting the unit in front of her the ability to dodge magic attacks. She also has a Rear Cleanse which will keep your team free from negative effects. She also brings Slow and Camouflage, which will allow for greater survivability throughout the fight.

Being the second airdrop card, I tend to think of Kei being in a similar situation as Zarin. Kei was not as well liked as Rage, the previous airdrop, and the market reflected that. I think Zarin will not be viewed as highly as Zyrx, and should trade at a lesser dollar value. Not that Zarin is a bad card, but it doesn't seem as exceptional as Zyrx, and there are other good options out there for Phase Ward. This makes it unclear wether or not Zarin can hold its value even at the level of a conflict wagon, which is currently 6$. Kei is currently trading for about 3$, although wagons were not a factor back then.

To conclude, is Zarin the Scorch a good card, regardless of the conflict's circumstances, or comparisons with other cards? Yes, it is good. It is the kind of card you will want to play in a 3rd position, behind a fast reach monster, in order to protect it against magic attacks. At the same time, you will keep your team cleansed while still doing five damage per turn, for just eight mana. With seven health and Camouflage, it will be hard to kill off early on. Also the fact that it is a Djinn is interesting, can we expect a Djinn archon in the near future? If so, this card will benefit with an extra ability, and the possibility of being played in a different splinter. I think it is a luxury rather than a must have. The fact that it is a dragon card probably hurts rather than helps, at this point in the meta. I would rather it belong to one of the five main splinters, but that is just my two cents.

So tell me, what do you think of this card? Is it good, is it bad, how are you doing so far in the conflicts? Leave a comment below and thank you for reading!
