Greetings all
Teaching is really keeping me busy, and I only really have time to write on weekends. I hope you all enjoy the update!
He followed these travellers until they got to their correct time. Then, he travelled within their timeline, back to find who he could use. But there was no Edzeeker. He had been missing for longer than people could remember. Where was he?
Shareik travelled further back within this universe and found the time when Edzeeker was taken. No, not taken, enticed. As Shareik had enticed the first Edzeeker, another Shareik was doing the same in this universe. This Shareik was different, too, older, wiser. He had led Edzeeker to believe that he had sealed the Dragon within the time corridors, which had been done by one before him. What was this Shareik doing? Why would he give power to this creature again?
But Shareik knew. This girl had shown potential. Time and time again, she was shown to Shareik. She had to be the answer to everything. Shareik sighed. If he had to destroy one life to make sure the Dragon came to heel, then that would be an act he would have to live with.
But then, Edzeeker and the older Shareik were gone. They hadn’t just travelled through time, but universes. Shareik wanted to follow, but felt that he needed to make sure that the first Saita he had unwittingly damaged beyond repair would heal. He would spend some time in that universe before trying to track down Edzeeker again. How much more damage could he do that he hadn’t done already?
Kay stirred painfully and sat up. Pain was nothing new to her, nor were injuries from Wolven anything that bothered her body anymore. She had long since built up a tolerance to infection their claws could spread. What she hated was the bruising from the sound thrashing she had taken.
After she had defeated the one Wolven in the previous time, she had overestimated her skills. Coming face-to-face with Jackal proved that the power she had once held was gone. She could get it back; it would take some time, but she could do it. But then she remembered the pain it would cause her body.
In her own time, it was once explained to her that her ability to take energy may have been normal, but assimilating it wasn’t. It was like mixing the wrong blood types. The only time taking energy didn’t hurt was when the Wolven had given it to her. That was something that would never happen again, not with the way time was now.
She didn’t want to be here. She didn’t want to be anywhere. She had eventually become content in sleeping within Saita’s mind. The nothingness was a comfort compared to the screaming voices she had had to endure for millennia.
Having life now meant nothing. There was nothing to live for, nothing to work towards. She was trapped. Helpless. Unable to do anything. What was she going to do now? Saita had set out to find her husband and son, and she had done that. Now she would become the Fell Dragon that healed the universe. Where did that leave the Fell Dragon that had nearly torn everything apart?
Painfully, she got to her feet. The male twin had done his job well, despite despising her existence. The wounds would heal fast, within a few days, if they stayed clean. The cold bit into her near-naked form, and she dug around in the cupboard close by for something to wear.
Painfully, she started to pull on a black woollen pants, followed by a white shirt. She had to suck in her breath when her ribs screamed at her in protest. Eventually, she managed to pull the shirt on but didn’t relish the idea of pulling a sweater on or bending over to put on some socks.
She wrapped her arms around herself, placing the palms against her ribs, and closed her eyes. She moved the energy from her hands into her ribs, looking for the cracks she felt were there. They weren’t serious, but she would need to be careful with where one was, for if it were to break, it could do considerable damage.
Slowly, she allowed her hands to travel over her body, finding the injuries. While she had no idea how to heal, she could at least find the injuries and prevent them from worsening. It was a skill she had developed young. It protected her on the streets.
She shook her head. She didn’t want to think of her time back then. It didn’t matter. Not only was it over, but that universe was the first she had completely consumed when she had left the cage for the first time. She hadn’t even realised it until decades later, when she took the time to learn about what she was, what the cage was, and how the Wolven could serve her.
Socks in hand, she limped from the room, hoping to find a chair that would allow her to sit and put them on without her ribs screaming at her. The house was quiet, and she had no idea where everyone was, and at first thought that she had been abandoned. Then she noticed the time-traveling boy. What was his name? Fledge?
She scoffed under her breath. Naming a child Fledge was stupid. Even more so when he went on to be a Fledgling Dragon. A creature Kay had tried to stomp out during her reign as a Fell Dragon. But she had felt his energy, and it was nagging at her.
“What do you want?” muttered the boy as he looked up at her.
A boy. Though he looked to be a little older than Kay looked, she knew he was close to, if not older than, her true age. He had spent many millennia doing the work that Saita should have been doing. He and who knows how many others like him.
“A comfortable place to sit.” She said as she showed him the balled pair of socks.
She was almost surprised that she hadn’t snapped at him. She was tired, and her ribs ached. She also had the annoying gnawing starting in her belly. Kay looked around what she took to be a lounge and spotted a chair she thought would be perfect. She sat down and separated the socks.
She grimaced when she leaned over and instead chose to lift a leg, but even that shot painful waves through her ribs and other injuries.
“Here. Let me.”
This is all the calm before things really heat up.
