Fledgling: Part 90

Hi all

Enjoy the story! I have been doing research for the next part and I think you're all going to love it!

When Saita returned to when she had left, she was met with a scene of absolute chaos. The newcomer and Kay were having a screaming match. Red-Eye and Rubar remained where they had been, not wanting to get involved. Her children were in the kitchen, gaping at the scene, while Bolx seemed to be grinning at the interaction. The only one that seemed to be highly entertained by the situation was Fledge, who seemed to be eating a bowl of popcorn.

“I gave you a blueprint to follow!” said the newcomer, her arms waving wildly.

“And it wasn’t followed! You should know that interfering with time can cause slips here and there.” Retaliated Kay.

“I gave you everything you needed to avoid those.”

“Yeah, me. Did you try to prepare her for what was to come? She didn’t even know she was immortal yet.”

Saita felt her insides grow cold. She had always suspected but had prayed for it not to be true. She saw her husband’s eyes flick up to her, and she couldn’t help but see the sadness there.

“You’d think she would have caught on by now. I mean, she’s what? Over 200?”

“250 odd.” Said Saita.

The newcomer spun around, and Saita couldn’t help but allow a groaned to escape her lips.

“More of us?”

“I’m you, idiot.” Said the newcomer.

Kay rolled her eye and indicated to the Balance Dragon, “This is you after you become the Balance Dragon.”

The newcomer pretended to look at a non-existent watch on her wrist and muttered, “Took you long enough. How’s old batwings?”

“Dead or will be very soon. Took us a while to figure out how to use my power with his skills.”

“Ah! So, he didn’t reject you. That would have been a problem.”

“Would have been worse if I had caught her.” Muttered Kay.

“What’s actually going on here?” asked Saita.

“I couldn’t wait for you anymore. You have to step in.”

“Why? You can just take a nap until the correct time…” Kay then paused, as if something had dawned upon her. “You didn’t!”

“Sacrifices need to be made. You weren’t supposed to have a body, not yet. That was a choice I made to give you the freedom I believed you deserved. But things went wrong…”

“What did you do?” asked Fledge, suddenly stopping his eating.

The Balance Dragon shrugged her shoulders and simply said, “Fledgling, it’s time you go home with your friend. I will take over from here.”

“Oh, don’t you…” Fledge tried to get to his feet.

However, before he could move, the Balance Dragon waved her hand, causing Rubar and Fledge to disappear from the room. While there wasn’t panic, the atmosphere in the room changed.

“What did you do?” demanded Bolx.

“He is fine. I returned him to the time corridor. He has his own story to complete. Staying here and saying goodbyes will only make things worse.”

“Worse how?” demanded Kay. “We beat the mangy mutts. There is nothing else…”

The Balance Dragon flicked Kay’s head, and she immediately stepped back, rubbing the area furiously.

“I’m not a goddamned child! Stop treating me like one! What is your problem?”

“You’re the problem.” Continued the Balance Dragon.

“How? I have none of the strength I had before. I have the bare bones of what I was born with and the leftovers of being forced out of a body. Hell, I don’t even have a full body! How am I the problem?”

The Balance Dragon’s face of fury slowly started to fall to show one of sadness. She looked to Red-Eye and then back to Kay. “You’re the problem.”

Kay absolutely exploded.

“What do you want? An apology! I was what I was made into.”

“Enough!” said Saita.

She hadn’t yelled, she had barely raised her voice, but it was enough to get the attention of everyone in the room.

She turned to Kay, “She’s referring to the past you and the events you put into motion. I have only fixed one. There is more I need to fix.”

“Not just her mistakes. The mistakes of all the other Dragons. You have to lead them to this moment.”

“You mean kill them?” asked Maxine from the kitchen.

The Balance Dragon looked at her and nodded her head, “Yes, by following the story.” Ooh, this is about to get interesting~!
