Hello readers!

Here is another update about what is happening to Robert while on the Isle of Kai. Don't forget to follow @zakludick's branching story to see what is happening to the other party that is in motion.

Robert wearily plodded through the streets, following the directions of the fox resting on his shoulders. The creature had been talking incessantly since the water fountain. It should have irritated Robert, made the creature within him stir, but no. The beast seemed to be calm. Awake, sure, but calm.

“How are you keeping the beast calm?” he asked as the fox-creature once more offered him several directions.

“I am doing nothing. Kai is in control.”

“Who is this Kai you keep referring to?”

“Oh, that’s right! You’re an outsider, you wouldn’t understand.” The fox sighed heavily.

Robert felt like a school child about to get a lecture.

“You know about Hiral Kai, Vallox Kai, Jidan Kai, and Endor Kai, right?”

“I do, they are the different schools. Bright magic, wind magic, marauders, and spear maidens.”

“Those are just some of the faces of great Kai. There are many other schools, but those are the ones that get most of the initiates and become the face of Kai.”

The fox laughed at its little joke before continuing.

“They are all Kai; Kai is our leader. Our god, you might say.”

Robert felt his stomach drop. He was tired of the gods and the way they interfered with the people of this world. The fox seemed to feel his distaste and continued.

“Kai was left an important job but a difficult one. He couldn’t do it alone, not as himself. So, he divided himself up into different aspects and different strengths. That is why there are so many names for Kai.”

“And what job was so important that Kai had to split himself?”

The fox tensed on his shoulder and for the first time since they had entered the city, fell silent. Robert continued to walk throughout the massive city. Following the previous set of instructions. The houses were clustered together in different coloured shapes. Some round, others square. This last section had been a shape that Robert hadn’t even recognised.

Now that the instructions had run out, Robert was left standing at the start of a steep incline that seemed to lead to a temple. A massive one. One far bigger than Robert had ever seen.

“Go on. They are all waiting up there for you.” The fox nipped his ear.

Robert was used to the sharp nips that seemed to bring nothing but a short burst of pain and no blood. He slowly put one foot in front of the other. Was he about to meet another god? He was so tired of the gods and their interference. There was no good with them being here.

His thoughts seemed to bring another nip from the fox before it jumped from his shoulders and sprinted up the incline to the temple. It took Robert another five minutes before he reached the entrance of the temple. The door was almost as tall as a house and stood flanked by a many-faced statue. Robert was unsure if this was a representation of Kai or something far worse.

The fox sat at one of the statue's feet and indicated with its head that Robert should enter. Robert wasn’t scared. When he had leaped from the boat to attack the Kraken-like beast, he had already considered his life over. This was a beginning.

He had allowed his mind to wander and wasn’t paying attention to where he was going, so he was surprised when a weight collided with his chest.

“Don’t ever do that again!” yelled Noxus into his chest.

He hadn’t known the sorcerer very long, but he knew that her reserved nature to slip before others meant she had been terrified of the potential outcome of his survival. He could only imagine what had been going through their minds as he jumped from the ship to fight a beast in water depth that was unknown to all.

“I am fine. I was brought here by…” he turned to show the fox, but it was gone.

It had likely been another face of Kai, bringing him to where he needed to be. Then there was a sharp nip on his ear and a whisper followed soon after.

“I guess you’ll never really know.”
