Discover Hive: Focus on Resource Credits (RC)
What are Resource Credits and how they work
More than six years have passed since I discovered [Hive](https://hive.io/) and created my Hive account.
When I was a new user and had little Hive Power I thought that every action on Hive was unlimited.
Then one day I tried to publish a post but couldn't because I was out of **Resource Credits (RC)**.
If you are a new Hive user and/or don't know what Resource Credits are in this post I will explain what they are and how they work because **Resource Credits are important to use Hive = perform transactions on the Hive blockchain!**
# What are Resource Credits
On Hive there are **HIVE** tokens and **HBD** tokens but it is only the staked form of the HIVE tokens = **Hive Power (HP)** that measures the influence of an Hive account.

In addition to measuring the influence of an account, Hive Power has many other use cases.
The **Hive Power also determines the amount of transactions you can make** every day on the Hive blockchain.
In fact on Hive **transactions are fast and are at 0 cost** because you pay no commissions.
**On Hive instead of commissions there are Resource Credits**.
**Resource Credits are an internal mechanism of the blockchain that serves to manage the use of resources**.
In fact **every action on the Hive blockchain** (commenting, voting, transferring tokens, posting, etc.) **consumes a certain amount of Resource Credits**.
Each Hive user has a limited amount of Resource Credits depending on the amount of Hive Power.

More Hive Power = more Resource Credits!
**Resource Credits** are not tokens, cannot be bought or sold and are not infinite but **recharge over time**.
# How Resource Credits work
**Resource Credits are automatically recharged over time.**
If you use Hive moderately you are unlikely to exhaust your Resource Credits
If you have low HP and are very active you may exhaust your Resource Credits.
There are several **tools** that allow you to **monitor the amount of RC you have** and many of these tools are integrated in the most used front ends like [Peakd](https://peakd.com/) and [Ecency](https://ecency.com/).
For example on **Peakd** you can see how many RCs you have by simply clicking on **your profile** or simply hovering the mouse pointer over **STATS + KE**

On **Ecency** you can see how many RCs you have in the section of **your profile** in the left column.

**If you finish the Resource Credits** you have **three options**:
- you can **wait for the Resource Credits to recharge** automatically as time passes
- you can **increase your Hive Power** (HIVE -> HIVE staked)
- you can **request an RC delegation**
In fact **Resource Credits can be delegated** separately from Hive Power.

# What is the function of Resource Credits?
The mechanism of **Resource Credits**:
- allows Hive users to live a **no-fee experience**
- allows the use of resources to be regulated **avoiding/limiting spam**.
- **encourages and rewards the staking of HIVE tokens**: more HP, more RCs available

# Resource Credits = the fuel to move on Hive
To explain the mechanism of Resource Credits to new Hive users I like to use **the metaphor of fuel and a car**.
Just like a car needs petrol to move so on Hive you need Resource Credits to make transactions.
Hive Power on the other hand is like the fuel tank of a car.
The bigger the fuel tank of a car, the more fuel it can hold and the more kilometres you can drive.
On Hive the more Hive Power you have and the more Resource Credits you have = you can do more transactions.
Resource Credits = Fuel
Hive Power = Fuel Tank
The difference between fuel in a car and Resource Credits is that:
- **in real life fuel costs money**.
- **on Hive Resource Credits recharge over time**.
# What is the RC cost of different transactions on Hive?
There is a useful **tool** that shows the RC cost of each type of executable transaction on Hive: [Hive Blockchain Node Beacon](https://beacon.peakd.com/)
In fact, in the Resource Credits section for each type of transaction you can see
- the **cost in RC**
- the **equivalent amount of Hive Power (HP)**
For example **to upvote a post**:
- **RC Cost = 0.077b RC**
- **HP Equiv. = 0.047 HP**
**To Claim 1 Hive Account**:
- **RC Cost = 9464.737b RC**
- **HP Equiv. = 5694.812 HP**

## Are you not a Hive user?
If you are not a Hive user and don't know the world of blockchains you have two options:
**You can continue to be a simple number, a simple source of data and wealth for centralized projects** like Facebook & Co. without receiving anything or almost anything in return.

# Cosa sono i Resource Credits
Su Hive ci sono i token **HIVE** e i token **HBD** ma è solo la forma staked dei token HIVE = **Hive Power (HP)** che misura l'influenza di un Hive account.

L'Hive Power oltre a misurare l'influenza di un account ha tanti altri casi d'uso.
L'Hive Power determina anche la quantità di transazioni che puoi effettuare ogni giorno sulla blockchain di Hive.
Infatti su Hive **le transazioni sono veloci e sono a costo 0** perchè non paghi commissioni.
**Su Hive al posto delle commissioni ci sono i Resource Credits.**
**I Resource Credits sono un meccanismo interno della blockchain che serve per gestire l'uso delle risorse**.
Infatti **ogni azione sulla blockchain di Hive** (commentare, votare, trasferire token, postare, ecc.) **consuma una certa quantità di Resource Credits**.
Ogni utente di Hive ha un quantitativo di Resource Credits limitato che dipende dal quantitativo di Hive Power.

Più Hive Power = più Resource Credits!
I **Resource Credits** non sono token, non sono acquistabili o vendibili e non sono infiniti ma **si ricaricano con il tempo**.
# Come funzionano i Resource Credits
**I Resource Credits si ricaricano automaticamente nel tempo.**
Se usi Hive in modo moderato difficilmente esaurirai i tuoi Resource Credits
Se invece hai pochi HP e sei molto attivo potresti esaurire i tuoi Resource Credits.
Ci sono diversi **tools** che ti permettono di **monitare il quantitativo di RC che possiedi** e molti di questi tools sono integrati nei front ends più utilizzati come [Peakd](https://peakd.com/) ed [Ecency](https://ecency.com/).
Ad esempio su **Peakd** puoi vedere quanti RC hai semplicemente cliccando sul **tuo profilo** oppure semplicemente fermando il puntatore del mouse su **STATS + KE**
