On Splinterlands, time is marked by seasons that last approximately 15 days. There is less than a day left until the end of the current season, season 167.  I play Splinterlands since september 2019 and I am about to reach 17,000 battles played in **Modern Format**, which is my favorite game mode in Ranked Play.  I also really enjoy playing in **Frontier Format**, which I think is the best addition made by the Splinterlands team in 2025 because a completely free-to-play game mode is a great starting point for new players, and I think it can also be a great way to facilitate the onboarding of new players who can try the game before deciding whether or not to invest. In my opinion, **the path taken by Splinterlands in 2025 is the right one: increasing game modes and gameplay options!** In fact, during 2025, two new game modes were introduced in Ranked Play: - Survival Mode (February 27, 2025) - Frontier Mode (July 29, 2025). ||| |-|-| I also like the ongoing rework of Survival Mode because there will be brackets for human players only. My dream is to see Splinterlands completely free of private bots because, in my opinion, Splinterlands has beautiful and fun gameplay, and I see absolutely no long-term benefit in allowing private bots. While I consider private bots to be counterproductive, I consider liquidity bots to be very useful as they improve the gaming experience for human players by eliminating wait times when there are few active players.  When the new Survival Mode will be released, I will be very happy to play manually in the brackets reserved for human players, and my enjoyment will also increase because I will have three formats in ranked play instead of two to play manually.  Screenshot from: [SPS DAO Proposal - Survival Test](https://peakd.com/@clayboyn/sps-dao-proposal-survival-test) Having closed this parenthesis on some of my personal considerations, in this post I share my end-of-season activity in which: - I try to play as many battles as possible to achieve my seasonal goals - I check and manage my incoming and outgoing rental activity The seasonal goals I set at the beginning of the season were: - to reach Diamond III league in the Modern Format - to play consistently in the Gold leagues in the Frontier Format. I achieved my seasonal goal in **Frontier Format** because I play in the Gold III league.  In **Modern Format**, I played 274 battles with a win rate of 50%.  It will be difficult for me to reach my seasonal goal because I have a rating of 2400 and 38 energy points, and I would need to increase my rating by 400 points before the end of the season.  I'll still try to finish the season in the Gold I league, which would still be a good result for me. My results in the Moder Format have improved since I rented two top-level archons: **Avina of the Wolf** and **Nomos**  Some time ago, I found these two archons at lower rental prices than the current ones, and one of the things I do before the end of the season is to renew the rental of these two summoners for another season.  Screenshot from https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/cards To renew the rental of Avina of the Wolf and Nomos, I used [Peakmonsters](https://peakmonsters.com/) and spent a total of **1267.005 DEC = 84.46 DEC per day**.  My balance between rent out and rent in is slightly negative because I earn 74.27 DEC per day and spend 84.46 DEC per day, but thanks to the two archons I rent, I manage to earn a much larger amount of SPS tokens than the cost of the rental. My strategy is to use all the income I get from renting cards that I don't use in battle to rent cards that I consider useful in the Modern Format and that can help increase my win rate. I would like to rent another max-level archon, but I am willing to spend a maximum of 50 DEC per day per archon, and at the moment there are no max-level archons usable in the Modern Format at this price.  Today I also upgraded a card that I consider very useful, especially in battles with the **Going to Distance** ruleset (only cards with ranged attacks can be used). The card is **Caravan Guard**, a common card of the Conclave Arcana set, of which I have **47 CC**.  Today I purchased **13 copies** of Caravan Guard with the goal of **upgrading it to level 5** to allow this card to acquire the **Headwinds** ability   I made this upgrade with battles using the Going to Distance rule in mind. To purchase 13 copies of Caravan Guard, I used https://monstermarket.io/ and spent a total of 811.25 DEC and received a cashback of 19.5 DEC.   I did this upgrade because in battles with the Going to Distance ruleset, I don't have a good win rate when I use Life element cards. After my latest upgrade, I'll have a better chance of winning battles with the Going to Distance ruleset because I'll be able to use two cards with the Headwings ability in combination: - **Level 5 Caravan Guard**  - **Level 4 Anachron Bolter**  In fact, in battles with the Going to Distance ruleset, thanks to the Caravan Guard + Anachron Bolter combo, all of my opponent's cards will have two fewer attack points. I'll conclude this post by showing the results of my last game session in the Modern Format with the goal of advancing to the Gold I league and then trying to at least get close to the Diamond III league. I started the game session: - in Gold II - with a Rating score = 2400 - 100 rating points from the Gold I league My game session lasted 42 minutes. I played 11 battles: - 7 wins - 4 losses With 7 wins, I earned 34.41 SPS.   I started well, winning two battles, but I lost the third battle that would have allowed me to reach the Gold I league. I didn't lose heart and continued playing until I was again just 20 rating points away from the Gold I league. Fortunately, I won the eleventh battle, which had the **Back to Basics, Maneuvers**, and **Blood and Sunder** rulesets, which you can see by clicking on the following link. I placed the cards with high magic attack in the last positions because in battles with the Back to Basics rule, they are the last to be attacked and are also the most important cards for winning this type of battle.  My strategy worked and I won the battle.  I advanced for the first time this season in the Gold I league.  I was also very lucky to find a legendary Reward Soulbound card!  I still have 32 energy points left, and I'll try to advance in the Diamond III league. Even though it won't be easy, I'll enjoy playing and trying to advance to the next league!
