On 18 July 2025, Splinterlands announced **the release of a new, completely free-to-play game format**.
**A completely free-to-play entry point for new players** was something that was missing from Splinterlands, but now it's here because just over an hour ago **Splinterlands announced the release of the new Frontier format**.
**Ranked Play** is now structured into four different formats:
- **Frontier**
- **Modern**
- **Wild**
- **Survival**
The new **Frontier format** is the logical completion of **Campaign Mode**.

In fact, **in the new format, you can only use Foundation cards**, which are cards that can be obtained by completing missions in Campaign mode.
Campaign mode is a **free-to-play** game mode that allows you to:
- **Learn the game mechanics**
- **Play**
- **Earn Foundation Cards**
- **Earn Glint** (in-game tokens that can be spent in the Reward Shop)

So **the first step to playing in the new Frontier format is to play and complete missions in Campaign Mode** to receive Foundation cards!
If you complete all the missions in Campaign Mode, you will receive the same Foundation cards that I have, which you can see in the next images.
**Playing in Frontier format** will not only be a free-to-play activity, but also a rewarding one, because:
- by playing, you can **earn Foundation Cards**
- There will be a **weekly raffle** that will distribute 76 cards every week for a total of 7,892 cards distributed over a two-year period!

But now it's time to move from theory to practice.
Today I played **my first battle in the new Frontier format**.
I went to the **Play->Ranked-Frontier** section and clicked on **Battle**.
In my first battle, I played against @road2horizon, who is a member of my guild in Brawls.
I clicked on **ENTER ARENA** to choose my battle formation.
In the first battle, I chose to use the archon **Marlai Singariel** because she has the ability to increase the magical attack of the cards she summons.
When the battle rules include the **Fog of War** rule, I especially like to use cards with magical attacks.

Using a card with the Taunt ability in the first position and two cards with magical attacks was a winning strategy because at the end of Round 4, my opponent was left with only one card with a ranged attack, and I won the battle at the start of Round 5.
I won my first battle in the Frontier format, but to receive my first daily reward, I need to win four more battles.

Out of 7 battles played, I got **5 wins** and unlocked the **first daily reward**.
I clicked on **CLAIM** and received a chest.
In the chest, I found a copy of **Port Guardian**.
Now I have two copies of Port Guardian, but to upgrade to level 2, I need to find three more copies.
In this post, I'll stop here with sharing my gaming activity, but I'll continue playing in the new format and try to unlock as many rewards as possible.
I still have two daily rewards to unlock, and to get them, I need to win 10 more battles.
**My first impression of the new format is very positive!**
**If you've never played Splinterlands and want to try this fun game, now is the perfect time to do so** because you can start playing and learn the game mechanics **completely free of charge** thanks to the new **Frontier** format!

# Il nuovo formato di gioco gratuito su Splinterlands è arrivato e si chiama Frontier!
# Le mie prime battaglie nel nuovo formato e la mia prima ricompensa!
Il 18 luglio 2025 Splinterlands ha annunciato **il rilascio di un nuovo formato di gioco completamente free to play**.
**Un punto di ingresso completamente free to play per i nuovi giocatori** era qualcosa che mancava su Splinterlands ma adesso c'è perchè poco più di un ora fa **Splinterlands ha annunciato il rilascio del nuovo formato Frontier**.
Adesso il **Ranked Play** è strutturato in quattro formati diversi:
- **Frontier**
- **Modern**
- **Wild**
- **Survival**
Il nuovo formato Frontier è il logico completamento del **Campaign Mode**.

Infatti **nel nuovo formato è possibile utilizzare solo le Foundation cards** che sono carte ottenibili completando le missioni nella modalità Campaign.
La modalità di gioco **Campaign** è una modalità di gioco **free to play** che permette di:
- **Imparare le dinamiche di gioco**
- **Giocare**
- **Guadagnare le Foundation Cards**
- **Guadagnare Glint** (in-game token spendibili nel Reward Shop)

Quindi **il primo passo per giocare nel nuovo formato Frotier è giocare e completare le missioni nel Campaign Mode** per ricevere le Foundation cards!
Se completerai tutte le missioni del Campaign Mode riceverai le stesse Foundation cards che ho io e che puoi vedere nelle prossime immagini.
**Giocare nel formato Frontier** non sarà solo un attività di gioco free to play ma sarà anche un attività di gioco premiante perchè:
- giocando è possibile **guadagnare Foundation Cards**
- ci sarà una **Raffle settimanale** che distribuirà 76 carte ogni settimana per un totale di 7892 carte distribuite in un intervallo di tempo di due anni!

Ma adesso è arrivato il momento di passare dalla teoria alla pratica.
Oggi ho giocato la **mia prima battaglia nel nuovo formato Frontier**.
Sono andato nella sezione **Play->Ranked-Frontier** è ho cliccato su **Battle**.
Nella mia prima battaglia ho giocato contro @road2horizon che è un componente della mia stessa gilda nelle Brawls.
Ho cliccato su **ENTER ARENA** per scegliere la mia formazione di battaglia.
Nella prima battaglia ho scelto di puntare sull'archon **Marlai Singariel** perchè ha l'abilità di aumentare l'attacco magico delle carte da lei evocate.
Quando tra le regole di battaglia c'è la regola **Fog of war** mi piace utilizzare soprattutto le carte con attacco magico.

Usare una carta con l'abilità Taunt in prima posizione e due carte con attacco magico è stata una strategia vincente perchè alla fine del Round 4 il mio avversario è rimasto con una sola carta con attacco dalla distanza e io ho vinto la battaglia all'inizio del Round 5.
Ho ottenuto la mia prima vittoria nel formato Frontier ma per ricevere la mia prima ricompensa giornaliera è necessario vincere altre quattro battaglie.

Su 7 battaglie giocate ho ottenuto **5 vittorie** e ho sbloccato la **prima ricompensa giornaliera**.
Ho cliccato su **CLAIM** e ho ricevuto un forziere.
Nel forziere ho trovato una copia di **Port Guardian**.
Adesso ho due copie di Port Guardian ma per fare l'upgrade al livello 2 devo trovare altre 3 copie.
In questo post mi fermo qui con la condivisione della mia attività di gioco ma continuerò a giocare nel nuovo formato e cercherò di sbloccare il maggior numero di ricompense possibili.
Ho ancora due ricompense giornaliere da sbloccare e per ottenerle devo vincere altre 10 battaglie.
**La mia prima impressione sul nuovo formato è davvero molto positiva!**
**Se non hai mai giocato su Splinterlands e vuoi provare questo divertente gioco è questo il momento giusto per farlo** perchè potrai iniziare a giocare e potrai imparare le dinamiche del gioco in **modo assolutamente gratuito** grazie al nuovo formato **Frontier**!
