The 2025 school year, which on this side of the world 🌎 where we're here starts from March to December, has been packed with motivating activities for children, and that's only in April 🥴. For mothers and fathers, it can sometimes become a bit exhausting because they're still young when they go to kindergarten, and, in reality, most of the tasks are more for adults, so support must be constant. One does it with love and dedication, but I don't romanticize the process 😆.
El curso 2025, que en este lado del mundo 🌎 donde hemos venido a parar comienza de marzo a diciembre, ha estado cargado de actividades motivadoras para los niños, y eso que tan solo corre el mes de abril 🥴. Para las madres y padres a veces se torna un poco agotador porque aún son pequeños cuando van a kínder, y, en realidad, la mayoría de las tareas son más bien para los adultos, pues, el acompañamiento debe ser constante. Una lo hace con amor y entrega, pero, no romantizo el proceso 😆.
Anyway, the thing is, today, April 23rd, is International Book Day, and we had to take them dressed as a literary character. Unfortunately, we don't have the huge library we had in our little house in Cuba here (my books 📚, how I miss them 🥺). Here they're super expensive, and we still don't have all the ones we'd like, but we've been stockpiling some at used book sales, the ones I love more than the new ones that even come in nylon. A couple of days ago, we found ourselves at the Plaza O'Higgins Fair here in Valparaíso, Chile 🇨🇱, a little book of fables by Aesop, Fredo, Samaniego, and other classics of the genre. I was overjoyed and immediately bought it without calculating expenses. When it comes to books, I forget about the math and my savings plan goes to hell ❤️📖. Since then, I read several of those beautiful texts to Maty every night, and we analyze the morals together.
En fin, la cosa es que hoy, 23 de abril, es el día internacional del libro, y hubo que llevarlos disfrazados de un personaje literario. Desgraciadamente, no contamos acá con la inmensa biblioteca que teníamos en nuestra casita en Cuba, (mis libros 📚, cuánto los extraño 🥺) aquí son carísimos y todavía no tenemos todos los que quisiéramos, pero, algunos hemos ido atesorando en ventas de libros usados, esos que amo más que los nuevos que vienen hasta en "nylon". Hace un par de días nos encontramos en la Feria de la Plaza O'Higgins, acá en Valparaíso, Chile 🇨🇱, un librito de fábulas de Esopo, Fredo, Samaniego y otros clásicos del género. Exploté de alegría y enseguida lo compré sin calcular gastos, cuando de libros se trata las cuentas se me olvidan y el plan de ahorro se va al carajo ❤️📖. Desde entonces cada noche le leo a Maty varios de esos textos preciosos y analizamos juntos las moralejas.
The costume we have on hand is of a dog, which we complemented with a pair of yellow rain boots (which he loves 😆). I don't know if it reminds me more of Bob the Farmer's dog or Snoopy on rainy days 😆, but anyway, the thing is that he looks like a dog happily cleaning the farmyards. I thought about buying him a new one, of some famous character, but then I analyzed it more closely and the idea of looking for a fable about a dog, which he could tell in the classroom and talk about teaching, totally won me over, and it also pleased my wallet 😆. So, that was the plan. Today my son will talk about "The Dog Crossing the River with a Piece of Meat in His Mouth," a Fable by Fredo, whose teaching can be summed up with the saying "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Last night we analyzed the story and its moral, and I was delighted to see his interpretation of it.
El disfraz que tenemos a mano es de un perrito, el cual complementamos con un par de botas de agua amarillas (que a él le encantan 😆), no sé si me recuerda más al perro de Bob el granjero o a Snoopy en días de lluvia 😆, pero bueno, la cosa es que parece un perrito que va feliz a limpiar los corrales de la granja. Pensé comprarle uno nuevo, de algún personaje famoso, pero, luego analicé mejor y la idea de buscar una fábula sobre un perro, que él pudiera contarla en el salón de clases y hablar sobre la enseñanza me sedujo por completo, amén de que también le agradó a mis bolsillos 😆. Así que, ese fue el plan. Hoy mi niño hablará sobre "El perro pasando el río con un pedazo de carne en la boca", Fabula de Fredo, cuya enseñanza se resume al refrán "más vale pájaro en mano que cientos volando". Anoche analizamos la historia y su moraleja, y quedé feliz de ver su interpretación al respecto.
